I've suffered from trichotillomania since I was 7, and I'm now 20. It mainly only acts up during panic attacks or severe anxiousness now. I was just wondering, has anyone found any fidget toys / rings / things that occupy your hands that actual reduce the desire to pull on your hair? I've tried certain things, but they just don't really do the job. I don't know if it's because I can't feel it on my head or what, but I would really love to know if any of you all have recommendations for fidget toys / etc? Thank you!

I have not tried any fidget toys, but I know that if my hands are busy things are better.

I find writing in my journal keeps my hands busy. My therapist suggested a stress ball from the dollar store. I even pull at my wig. So I'm also interested in suggestions.

Try pulling the yarn out of a chenille bed spread. It isn't the same, but it's satisfying in its own way.

I have 3 fidget cubes (one at the office, one at home, and one in the car) and they've all worked wonders. I usually pull the skin off my lower lip, the skin around my fingers, and pull my eyelashes out. I'm happy to say that atm I have one cut on my finger, my lower lip has one layer of skin missing, and my eyelashes are full again. If my hands are busy playing with the cubes they're not picking at my body and it's really helped me.

Also, does it help to have your hair tightly braided? It's a good deterrent and so are hats.

Tangle Toys are helpful for me. Also strings of different shaped beads.

I have a mild case but I found wearing a ball cap works

Me too, back in the 90s. I was desperate to quit. And I used a ball cap too. Still though, my poor hair is very thin now.
