this wildfire business is really pushing my buttons. the nearest fire is 25 miles away, but there's no actual "designated fire area", all it would take here is for someone to throw a cigarette out a window. it's hot and windy and there are trees all over the place. there was an evacuation in the next town over back in april.

am i prepared enough? we have renters insurance and a fire safe. i made a list of things to grab (which i am hiding from my husband).

the thing is, fire is something you SHOULD worry about, so i'm not sure what to do. i guess nothing. these are not real problems.

i was just now debating whether i should get dressed and go put some more gas in the car, cuz it's only about 1/3 full. (it's 2am). the good news is that i decided that was stupid.

I'm not an expert on this sort of thing, but I wanted to send you my well wishes, as this must be quite a stressful time.

It sounds like you are handling things quite well enough. Good for you for not going out to get gas at 2am...that could be dangerous for all sorts of other reasons besides fires!

It sounds like you are doing all the necessary prep work, so I don't think there's much else you can do at this point except hope for the best. But that's the problem with us OCDers, eh? We always want to be doing something.

Good luck with everything.

I really understand your need to prepare yourself, I freak out before an ice storm or snow storm making sure I have everything I would need for at least a week. I hope that the fires stay away from your area and good job for not going out at 2am, I have struggled like that many nights.

thanks you guys. i feel dumb for even mentioning my worries when 700-odd homes have burned down. the air is all smokey and nasty today but other than that things are fine.

i hope Doh2007 is ok, he/she is in Yorba Linda where it is really bad.

Why feel dumb? If so many homes have been burnt down, you have every right to be concerned.

We can feel bad for others and still allow our own worries be valid. But yeah, good luck the rest of the way.

My best wishes to you. I live way down in Florida and I keep thinking that the fire will reach here and distroy my home, and that my fanily and I will have to move back to Canada.
