Ok my husband loves numbers. Which is'nt odd I don't guess. But he has to count every word whether it is said or written. It actually zones him out when your trying to talk to him sometimes because he is going over a particular word over in his head till he's sure the number is right. He also has this thing where he counts the "points" on peoples faces. Example: A woman has 16 points and a man has 18 points. I don't know what points he's talking about He said something about the ears corners of the mouth temples...he lost me about there. I told him he sounded like he had OCD but he associates OCD with his mom who has a germ phobia and constantly cleans as does his mamaw. He thinks all OCD's are cleaning/germ related. I told him OCD can be thought related and many other things but he won't go to a doctor. I think it's because his family sees him as already sick because he has severe Crohns and he don't want another disorder. But the way he describes this obbsession (he's had it since elementry school) sounds to me like he has OCD. He does'nt mind it. He said it helps him concentrate. I don' t see how but he says it does. He knows I come to this site and how it helps me so mabye if someone here gave their opinion, he will listen to me and get help before it gets bad if it can.Thank you Sorry so long by the way

Check out this link to the disorders here on PC:
http://psychcentral.com/disorders/ocd/

You are correct....OCD comes in many forms.....OCD is when there anything becomes an obcession that has to be done that isn't a normally done by people. It can take mild forms.....like my friend who can't leave her house or even the business she has without checking everything....the coffee maker, the door lock, the alarm system.....then she checkes it again....& again & again.....just to make sure it was done.

Your husband is right about it usually being about germs & cleanliness, but it's also about anything that people do over & over & over again like the counting you are describing here. There is a movie out about Howard Hughes (I think it's the Aviator). He was totally OCD & the movie shows all the ways that the OCD showed up in his life....might be an interesting movie for your husband to watch.

It is also something that is inherited, so just because it doesn't show up in the same was as him Mother or grandmother, the fact of their having OCD is definitely a good indication that he is dealing with it also....just that is has taken a different form with him.

Hope you can convince him to seek some help.....of course, if it is something that isn't really effecting his life or your life together, then it really isn't a problem....but if it is.....then it's something that really needs to be handled.

Hopefully you will be able to sort through it with him,
Debbie

How intrusive are the thoughts or rather disturbing? I too believe that OCD comes in many different forms.

They don't seem to bother him. I just noticed it. He has no other mental illness.
