Hello.

I am posting here because a friend of mine suggested that i might be suffering from OCD-like symptoms. Next week, my psych is going to prescribe me a drug for it.

I am obsessed with a certain person's name. The name keeps repeating itself in my mind like a loop. Can anyone relate to this? I can't get it to stop.

JC
Thanks for this!

I certainly can relate. I get phrases stuck in my head, that just keep repeating, sometimes for days. I also have OCD, so I guess it's part of that. The only thing I've ever found to help is if it's at night I write down the phrase or word in my diary at the back. I can then tell myself it's safe to calm down in my mind because it's written and won't be forgotten. Some of the stuff I've got stuck on I didn't even understand what it meant, I had to look up some of the words. I don't know where it comes from.

Sorry I can't say more to help!
Thanks for this!

I get songs and phrases stuck in my head, too. I know it's normal to get songs in your head, and it doesn't bother me that much.

Hello billi_leli,

You are not alone with these random, unexpected phrases. I also suffer from OCD (I was diagnosed about 2 weeks ago). I am currently on medication for my unwanted thoughts, and it seems to be helping. The docs say it takes about four weeks for the medication to get fully into your system. Don't worry about it. Whenever I go through these unwanted thoughts I just blame it on OCD and say to myself "Dont second guess yourself, you know you dont think that..." So the next time this happens why dont you try blaming it on OCD. Im sorry if this doesn't help, I just thought I would give you some advice since I know how you feel.

That happens to me all the time... generally someone I know who has a unique name. I have found that reading helps (especially something with a variety of characters).

Thanks for posting- I thought I was the only one that had this!

Yes, I can relate to it very much; been having problems for most of my 52 years of life; was taking for a time Fluvoxamine, need to get back on it; it did help a little. Hang in there and do your best!

I wish you the best!
