I had a very unpleasant call with a collections agency yesterday. They're claiming I owe Bell Canada close to $600 for home phone and internet service. Well the phone number they had, has never been mine, nor have I ever had Bell Internet service, (Nor will I ever now). Someone obviously used my stolen ID to open the accounts. This all goes back to when my wallet was stolen in 07 when I was in the hospital. The collections agency basically accused me of lying when I said I had never openned the accounts.

Now I have to go to a police station and file a fraud report. This sets off my anxiety really bad. Plus I'm going to have to tell them where my wallet was stolen from, which was a psychiatric hospital. I'm really afraid that once I say I was IP in a psych hospital, that they're not going to take me seriously.

I am a very nervous and unhappy camper.

okay this is WEIRD. Bell just called my mother yesterday demanding she send in 3 peices of id by fax as well as her lease... because apparently there are other accounts under her name TOO! I dont know why they are asking her, because she has had this account for like 15 years. But they are.

Weird coincidence eh? Or maybe not? I hope you get through it ok.

Could you say you were "visiting"? Because you were! If pressed, you could insist that you're not at liberty to disclose certain information because "confidentiality issues" are involved and THEY ARE! You could infer that someone else is involved as if you were visiting them. Sign nothing that allows for the disclosure of your records.

I'm really sorry that this happened.

I have had so many bad experiences with ID theft & the police not doing anything about it even when I caught the actual person who did it.....I understand the anxiety.....messed me up for months & one for several years because it was also in regards to abuse to my Mother when she was dying of cancer.

Police help.....they can get your money back, but going after the person even when they have stolen epensive things beyond the ID.....I have had nothing but bad experiences & no results.

I am sure they will get your money back....that is one thing they will do....& get the credit bureau off of you.....but they just let these people who do the ID theft go. That is why there is so much of it going on....it is a huge crime that is never prosecuted or even gone after....it will only get worse since all they do is get the money back & never take care of the problem.

My personal opinion from horrible experiences,

I know it will all work our for you with getting your name cleared....just make sure you follow through......
