Mk.. maybe I should put this in the ED forum... buut I get super triggered there(in terms of wanting to cut) any who.. I'm going to put it here. Does anyone know of a disease or aversion to eating in public? I hate ordering food in front of people and whenever I can I eat in my room. I also usually wait till all my roomates are away before I cook or eat sometimes this causes me not to be able to eat all day. Is this a real problem or am I just crazy?

Hey spaz. I have similar issues with eating, but not as severe as the ones you descibe. Mine has mostly to do with the fact that since I can't practice martial arts anymore and workouts seem to be impossible for many reasons which I won't go into, I am not in the physocal condition I was a few years ago (which I was very proud of). I feel like I'm on display and if I order too much food, as one who's on a diet might do once a week for a treat, I'll be scoffed at. I'm not sure if this is the reason or even one of them, but if it is, what has helped me is when I'm out, I'll order something small and healthy and make sure that I leave a few bites on the plate. This does a few things for me. One, I'm eating in smaller portions which is healthy. Even though I may eat something a few hours later, it will be again a small portion. Second, I'm eating something healthy which makes me feel good about myself. And third, if I'm with someone or whatever, they will see that I'm eating small amounts of healthy foor and that I must be trying to take care of myself. Just my thoughts. Take care sweetie.

I can`t eat in front of people & would rather not watch them eat either. I don`t know why. My dx is anxiety disorder with intermittant dissociative fugue, also depressive disorder.

Hi Spaz

could this be a phobia...phobia of eating in public? I've definitely heard of it being a symptom of anxiety. Maye research it?

I agree completely with what Ryan said, gotta be careful not to repeat and babble.

My problem of eating in public is:
"OMG they're all looking at me eat like a friggin' pig" Blah blah blah then into the whole ED thinking skit. Pretty different then yours, but I think it's still close enough.

You know, my friend is kinda an oinker, but she's odd about eating in public. She tells people though, she's not not eating, she just doesn't eat in public.

Going all day not eating isn't a generally healthy thing to do, maybe you should try grabbing small healthy snacks to eat that won't grab attention, and stuff. Have foods pre-made in the fridge to grab quick so they won't see you cook, etc.

There's nothing wrong with it, it's not some huge psych problem I think, just a little anxiety of it. Try to find a way to keep feeding your body though, around the uncomfort. <3 <3 Good luck.

Dude, I never thought of that. That's awsome and it certainly applies to me. Hell, I'm gonna take up doing that. and LOL about the "oinker" term. I like how you can use that term in an affectionate manner. Like you mean nothing by it. I have to be careful cause there's some words I use in the manner. Thanks for the advise, even this isn't my thread.
