I got a voice mail that my uncle died this morning. What am I supposed to do when someone dies? I am confused what to do. I haven't seen them in several years. I haven't even seen my own family in three and a half years due to lack of money and PTSD history. No one knows my current living and financial situation. With my history and family relations, what is death etiquette?

I think just send a card expressing your condolences, maybe include a childhood memory about your uncle. You don't have to explain much about yourself -- right now, his immediate family probably is too much in grief to think about other people right now anyway.

There is nothing wrong with sending a sympathy card and flowers, if the funeral might trigger you stay away and remember good memories if they are there

Basically do what YOU feel is right, send a card and so you know attending the funeral is YOUR choice you don't have to if you don't feel like you can. I figure funerals are more for the individual who is grieving to put closure to someones death. I wouldnt feel pressured into flowers if you don't want to or don't have the money. A card that says I'm sorry for your loss is good enough *hugs*
