I don't want to be a stick in the mud, and certainly drug companies with their huge profits should not be exempt from ridicule. I just wonder about those who participate here who have depression, panic disorder and impotence feel about this guy's comments about Zoloft, Xanax and Viagra, respectively. Certainly all three medications are frequently abused by doctors who prescibe them to patients who do not need them, probably with the encouragement of Pfizer salesmen. Many of us, however, benefit from them and are made to feel foolish by this spoof. Perhaps next year he can make fun of companies that manufacture products for the developmentally delayed, infirmed elderly or physically disabled. That would really be a riot.

That possibility was what I was referring to in my post above, but I feel DocJohn deserves to be himself and show a little spirited or mischievous personality sometimes too, like regular folks.

I do think taking some chances with humor is worth it many times. What's considered to be the best of it will still be disliked by some, but is probably worthwhile overall. I guess it comes down to whether one believes it is always better to be safe than sorry, even if it means suppressing one's personality a lot. DocJohn probably has to do that most of the time, and suppress many of his opinions too. I just mean that it must get hard to do as a rule. And, he only thought of this thing this morning and had to make a decision quickly.

You're right of course that the more a joke touches on one's own personal issues, the more of a difference it might possibly make. I say "possibly" because myself, I do like *some* "politically incorrect" humor; helps breaks through the front we so often have to walk around with, which personally can make me feel less connected to people. So I don't think it would have bothered me either way.

Please don't interpret this to mean I'm saying the other position is invalid or that mine is the only one. And in any event, he did mean well I'm quite sure, I doubt he would have devoted his life to this field if he didn't fully respect the people who have need for it.

I'm not sure what you mean sky. Look, I don't know this guy or you. I'm just getting a first impression of you both. I like humor, especially self-depreciating humor. I'm just not fond of humor at others' expense. Maybe I'll discover that this John guy is alright and sensitive towards people with depression and anxiety after all. I just thought it was a little wierd, even as an April Fools joke, for him to make fun of people on his site, that's all. Some sites only allow one point of view. That's cool too. That name thing was cute, though.

Practically all humor is at "someone's expense." Almost every joke I know of involves a person (and often a generalized stereotype of a class or type of person). The joke was directed at pharmaceutical companies in general and the idea that I would *ever* take direct pharmaceutical monies, as anybody who knows my background (or reads up a little on me) would know that isn't me.

But hey, welcome! Pfizer Sponsors Forums

Thanks. Puns aren't generally depreciating, but whatever. I got the joke, and laughed until I read the cocaine quip. I wouldn't expect that you could be tempted with pharmaceutical monies since you can't actually prescribe medication. But, I agree that these companies often gouge those of us who are dependent on them for our sanity. And it does seem that profit motives outweigh patient safety sometimes. I'm not trying to be a jerk, John, I just wanted to give another perspective from someone who was saved by pharmaceuticals. I'm sure you were just trying to poke fun at Pfizer on a good day for that kind of thing. The loyalty of your following is well deserved, I'm sure.

Oh oh! This was a grand April Fool's joke, I was all ready to write something up about how I disapproved of the new sponsorship, I had to read through this thread before I got my own -duh- reaction. *Grin* Delayed reaction, chalk it up to me tired.

Humor is great! And now I gotta read up more on you, Doc John. That was a darn good joke. I think my mouth is still open in surprise.

Topher, go lurk somewhere else, insulting the admin. who spends money to host the site we use for support isn't a way to get welcomed into the community. Grow up. A little heartless and mean to say. >

XD I feel so stupid. My short attention span makes it so I can't read through a lot of text, so I only read the first paragraph which didn't reveal it as a joke. XD I would have commented congratulating if I'd not seen other comments. Hahaha... >_<;;;

I doubt DocJohn would need to be able to prescribe meds in order to accept pharmaceutical sponsorship of his website, if he was inclined to do that kind of thing...
