I drink alone. I don't attend parties or go out clubbing but I do enjoy having a few drinks alone in my bedroom. Sometimes I do it when I'm stressed but most of the time I just like the feeling of being buzzed. Anyone like this too or do you drink socially only?

Nope....don't like buzzed feel. I am also on a med that makes it dangerous. I will have a small glass of wine or a mixed drink sometimes in the evening if I really have time to relax & don't have anything specific to do....but never drink for any buzz

I do both. I drink alone more often than socially. Doesn't help that most of my friends have moved elsewhere. I try to limit it but that doesn't always work.

I usually will only have a drink when I am home and not going anywhere.
My girlfriend is always there but she does not drink at all so I guess its
like drinking alone.

I rarely drink and absolutely refuse to drive after drinking. So, on the rare occasion when I drink it's at home or some place where I won't be driving afterward.

I don't drink very often and when I do I usually do it alone. The only time I drink socially is during a holiday like New Years or Independence Day.
Thanks for this!

I don't drink alone anymore because it started to make me feel pathetic. I don't go out socially but might have glass of wine if I do in the future. I don't intend to ever again drink alone and I am not drinking at all right now because I am training for a half-marathon.

I had the habit of drinking stout while soaking in a hot bath. I have fallen asleep and guess I could have drowned. But the last time I dropped the bottle. It hit the floor and bounced and all the beer spewed out like a volcano and hit the ceiling. I laughed about it for days but it was a drag as I had beer all over my bathroom and about that time I stopped drinking alone, then altogether.

Sorry, but I would never drink by myself. I worry that it might become addicting. Alcoholism is in my family and I just don't wish to risk it. I enjoy to drink in social situations - even if it just my boyfriend and I. When I do so however I make a conscious decision to limit myself to no more than 3. If I do go over that I will get stupid and drink to the extreme.

With that said, there have been periods in my life where drinking was a problem. My time in the Navy is case in point. In addition, when I have been manic, life tends to become one big party.

Because of my meds I rarely drink, and usually it's on a special occasion with my family. I only have a glass of wine and I nurse that sucker through the whole meal. There's been times that I want to drink but haven't.

Generally, I only drink if my hubby will have a drink with me. We usually have wine with dinner.

I don't drink at all. I'm the DD, I guess. Though no one has actually ever needed me for that yet. At family parties me and my brother are the only sober ones there. Lol

People are told they are alcoholics for drinking alone. I really don't understand it. I think they mean if you used to drink socially but started drinking more than you wanted others to see so therefore chose drinking alone.

They used to think it was very strange I could sometimes drink alone but almost never socially. And warned be of becoming an alcoholic. Like being alone in itself is a risk factor. Eh... no I still don't get it.

People who drink socially at least here get smashing drunk. It is sort of the game. If I drink alone I drink a little, see no point in overdoing it. No one is trying to make me drink more than I want to when I am alone. Going out, totally different, people usually drink more than they planned.

I also eat alone. I wonder if that will give me an eating disorder..? So tired of judgmental people... sorry for the whine. (And I'll have some cheese with that please.)

This was an excellent comment. I really appreciated the logic. It is true what they say about living alone. Like how it is great for mental health to eat with others etc.
Jimi is right. I live alone and do most everything alone including eating. When I was young I drank way too much at parties. Self regulation doesn't depend on being alone or in a crowd. Thanks, Jimi.

My dad was a violent alcoholic. Yet, I drank a lot, often alone. My medications were the impetus for stopping my drinking. One therapist told me the continuous use of toxic brew may have lead to self-harm.

I used to drink socially quite often. Now I just have the really rare spirit or glass of wine. Typically on my own. That'll change soon, but honestly, I'm not huge on alcohol. Been there, done that.
