China Doll's post made me think of an email I got from a friend recently. I'd like to post part of it. It's one of those things that makes you go, "hhmmm".
"Was doing my channel surfing this afternoon and stopped on Fox to see what was going on since I try to look at all sides. Anyway, I don't even know who's show it was but of course they were talking about health care. This young reporter said she had just learned something and that in the past three years the top 10 insurance companies had raised their rates 123% and that in the past 10 years these top 10 companies had made a 428% profit. Then there was one of those pregnant pauses where you could hear a mouse peeing on a cotton ball and the moderator said they needed to go to a commercial. When they came back the reporter was not to be seen on the set. As I have said before, some folks just don't want to hear the truth. " ![]()

I believe it. People want to live, so for anyone to live that isn't healthy, is going to pay. I think that it's BS. That's here in the US anyways.I just don't think that there should be a price on life.

I so have an opinion about the US and health care, but because mine is controversial it cannot be allowed..wahhhhh!!
How much of the truth do people really want to know? And more so, just who IS it that keeps us from hearing the REAL truth? (Makes one wonder what's really going on...IF they even care). I's duz! Shangrala ![]()

I agree with all of you - there shouldn't be a price tag to stay healthy. I live in Canada and we have what's called a 'health card'. You never have to pay to see a doctor or to get a necessary operation. Things that aren't covered are things like cosmetic surgery, seeing a psychologist(not psychiatrist). Some people have extra insurance through their work that may cover psychologists and chiropractors and prescription coverage. The main drawback is the system is overloaded right now so it sometimes takes a while to see specialists. The cost of health care is worked into the system through taxes.

A single payer system would have such lower administration costs. Private insurers use only 70% on health care. The other 30% pays for workers to kick people off the roles and for the CEO bonuses plus every doctor's office and hospital has to employ many people just to deal with the insurance companies to make sure they get payed. Medicare uses 97% for health care. This 27% would pay for a lot of uninsured and underinsured people! If every other developed nation has some form of universal health coverage why are we the only folks who don't?????? If everyone else was having such trouble with this I'm sure they would reform........ And we are the least healthy of all of the developed nations!
I have a cousin who is on the right and she doesn't have health insurance and still doesn't want the government to give her health insurance!

I had an opportunity to take a promotion and transfer to a job in the US in my previous company. I turned it down due to the US healthcare system. The monthly insurance premium I would have been paying even with good coverage thgough work, would have been far more than I pay here for my health care premium on my taxes.
