I have to go for surgery today on my kidneys as they are not functioning properly. Its not so much the surgery as being put under anaesthetic, that terrifies the life out of me.

Heres hoping all goes well

Paddy

Bro, it's not a whole lot different from going to sleep. Just count down from 10 when they give it to you, try to breathe, relax, keep yourself focused on positive thoughts, try and imagine the negative thoughts in a bubble floating away...

I really hope it goes well, you're a tough lad, let us know how you get on & we'll be waiting.

Love ya x

((((((((( Paddy ))))))))))

You're out now but I'm sure it went well. I love general anesthesia. It must do something to my brain. My brain loves it.

I've had it so many times, I remember being scared at first. Then I reasoned that zillions of people on the earth had been through it and lived to tell about it so I put my fate in God's hands.

One time, I was especially nervous. I was just about to go into the surgical suite for some elective surgery (so to speak) and I motioned for a nurse to bend down so I could whisper something. I said I was not sure I wanted to do this. She motioned for the anesthesiologist and they shot something into my IV and out I went!!! I guess they were not going to have any of that!!!

Have a swift recovery, dear one.

Just remember to breathe!! They should give you something to help calm you before going in and then when you get to OR, they'll have everything ready for you!!

It will be scary but with the anesthesia it will be quick and before you know it, you'll be waking up in post-op!!

I will keep you in my thoughts and say prayers for you!!

Let us know how you're doing when you feel up to it!!

Until then, take good care, we're thinking of you!!

I've been in a similar situation before and I was just as worried as you. There's really nothing scary about it. You feel a little poke in your arm where the IV goes in, and then simply drift off to sleep. It's not much different than going to bed at night. I know you must be worried, but I'm sure that everything will turn out just fine. Good luck!

Well the surgery went well. They uncovered 3 large stones one of which was blocking the flow of water. hence all the horrendous pain I have been in over the last few months.

I am sitting up in my bed at 2.53am in the morning in my room in the hospital, I cannot sleep. Thank God for PC for company and thanks god for all you dear people who care.

Love

Pat

I am glad that your surgery went alright. Being in the hospital must suck, but at least everything went well and you're doing okay. Hopefully everything goes smoothly from here on out and you don't have to have any more surgeries for a very long time!

Wonderful!!! So glad you had an easy time of it. I don't envy you the kidney stones! I had one once and it was only 2mm. I thought I was dying! Can't imagine having yours!
