I was just wondering has there every been a PC get together or weekend conference? I know I would love one and would certainly attend one if it was organised I would even help to organise it. I would love to meet all our wonderful members IRL.

Comments anyone?

Paddy

Hi Paddy

I used to frequent a another board connected to this site and we chatted daily in the chatroom. We mostly talked about our pain, but we usually ended up making each other laugh. Three of the women from neighboring states came out to Chicago. We rented a room and had a "slumber party." Two of us were suffering from physical pain, the other two emotional pain - but you would have never known. The only tears we shed were tears of laughter.

It was SO NICE to meet the people I had become close with over the internet - to know they are real people and not just words on a screen or a face in a photo. They will forever hold a place in my heart.

Spending a night together in a hotel room with "strangers" might be a little bold, but a conference sounds like a great idea.
Thanks for this!

I've always wondered what it would be like to meet the people that I talk to online. Not like flying to another country to meet some guy I met over the internet, but a weekend or conference would be cool

Hmmm I dont know if I could afford to go. I guess it would depend on where it would be held.

Neat idea! A reason why PC works is a degree of anonymity, imo. Of course it would be wonderful to meet people from here in real life.

The cost of getting to certain locations may be prohibitive for some and would perhaps make folks feel even more left out. Is there a way to have a cyber conference? Or, maybe pitiching in for those who cannot afford. If something goes ahead, how about a conference based on the issues each Forum or several Forums togther, represents. For example, has there ever been a DD forum for those who have this dx or suspect they do? I don't mean those professional conferences. If it's going to happen, it will likely be from the grassroots.

Interesting to work toward something, though.

Hunny

((((paddym22)))) I like the idea. Not just to meet everyone but to learn. I so want to figure out what is going on in my head. A conference could let us meet each other and learn more about our illnesses. hugs for your day.

I like the idea, if only I could afford to go where ever it would be held.

paddy, what a super idea!

When I was part of an online support group for those with RA/Chronic Pain, we had a regional get-together, and once a year we had a national one. One year it was in the UK...I saved for it for months, but it was worth every bean I ate so I could go!
I hosted the Southern regional, and it was absolutely wonderful. sorry, didn't mean the fact that I hosted it...meant that we laughed, cried a bit, laughed more, did the tourist thing by sightseeing, and grew in love and respect for each other and the challenges we handle everyday.

If it ever comes to pass, I'm offering my services re logistics.

In Peace
