Hello All who responded to my thread, What to do about carpal tunnel syndrome. I learned from that thread that it might not be carpal tunnel but tendonitis.
I lowered the laptop by taking it off the bedtray I'd been using and placing it directly on my lap. I finally made an appointment to see a physician (tomorrow morning) after a month of hoping the pain would get better all by itself. But here's the deal. My laptop isn't a "real" laptop -- it's a 17" desktop replacement that weighs 10 lbs. When it's on my lap, it pulls on my back-hip, which is an old injury with highly controllable pain. I wind up walking like I'm 80. I bought a cane on Friday to help me haul myself in and out of my recliner, where I type, and the car, etc. There is no room in the apartment for a desk. Plus, even in my ergonomic chiropractic desk chair, my neck pain quickly becomes unbearable in a regular desk-typing set-up. What I need is some kind of tiny lap table with little legs that are no higher than the width of my thighs, so that the computer will be supported by the legs, but not too high like on the other bed tray table. Any suggestions for something I can rig up at a reasonable cost?

Want2fly,
do you know anybody who is even a passible carpenter? That should be easy with a couple 1 x 12 and a few nails and glue. I wish I was there I think I could do it pretty easy. Make sure they round the edges so you don't get bruised. Good luck. Hope the pain subsides for you. place

Great ideas, all. I will get on it.
I put up shelves in a closet today, where I am keeping my back-up computer, instead of clothes, and where I need to store various kinds of office supplies. It took me four hours, and there are holes all over the drywall from my mistakes. I have, however, learned how to use a molly bolt. So glad I started in the closet and not with the LR shelves!

Sorry to hear you're in pain wants2. Hope that you can soon find a way to set up your computer to relieve the pain. Holes in drywall can always be fixed and congrats on learning how to use the molly bolt, whatever that is.

What's the old table made out of? Can you cut the legs off to the right heigth?
I've got carpal tunnel/tendonitis, too. The pain comes and goes and so does the tingling in my fingers. There are times when I can't even hold a fork to feed myself without putting the fork down and shaking out my hand. Something I do is a little excercise; I stretch my fingers backwards, in the opposite direction that makes them tingle. However, when I use the computer mouse too much, there's nothing I can do about that. The gel pad doesn't help much there, either. Sometimes, all you can do is go ahead and have the surgery. It's getting to that point with me. Not about to give up my computer, my painting, hand sewing, stringing beads, etc!! ![]() Wishing you the best in whatever you decide to do. ![]()
