Ya know how u can just "sink" in the movie, the real world disappears around u and for a while only the movie-world exists? I do that a lot, now that i have a dvd-player and have read all the books my sister has recommended. Now, i just can't watch failure, fear, stupidity, giving up... etc. Like, lord of the rings movies. There's a lot of them, with the extended ones u can spend an entire day in an imaginary world, but i CAN'T watch parts like Legolas failing to kill the ork with the torch in time in Two Towers. I can't watch how Frodo doesn't believe Sam. And so on. Cast Away was just on tv today, and i had to change channels all the time, cuz i just can't watch so many parts of it. Why does a volleyball make me cry??
Ugh.. was just babbling here i have no idea what am i trying to say...

I know what you mean, neri. Sometimes escaping into a fantasy world through movies or a good book is just what you need. It's dissociation, but it's a normal type of dissociation that anybody might do. Not a sign of anything wrong, unless you do it so much that you aren't living your own life. And some parts are harder to watch than others. You might want to take note of the things that are difficult for you and see if you can figure out why (or maybe you know). Those are things that it will probably help you to work through in therapy.

Neri, I have watched all three Lord of the Rings films so many times I can recite most of the lines that the characters say (plus I know the music that is playing in the scenes too). When I'm bored, or tired, etc, I make a kind of 'action replay' in my mind of various pieces of the film (no, I'm not obsessed, honestly! ) ... It's like watching the film again, but I can do it wherever I am, whenever I want. It just gets me away from the situation in hand, in an enjoyable way. I remember once when I was learning to drive, i kept hearing and watching the part in Fellowship of the Ring when Aragorn yells at the hobbits, "get back! Stay close to Gandalf!" ... it was very distracting. Oh well. It's quite good I suppose that I can 'watch' my favourite films when nowhere near a screen

My T has me go to movies from time to time to escape... and when they are following me intensely, I find it's one of the few places I can "hide" from them... unless they have infrared cameras too!
