I often play things out in my head. Like I will sometimes take an event that happened and play out how else it could have gone. I also play out a lot of what ifs like what if the house caught on fire. It's kind of like daydreaming but the content is kind of odd. Sometimes (as awful as this sounds) I almost fantasize- sometimes about killing people, or shooting my dog in the head, or what have you, but you get the picture-- just this weird off the wall stuff. Sometimes I scare myself with all of this. Does anyone else experience this or something similar? If anyone could help me with this or to understand it, that would be great. I also posted this under the schizophrenia forum but then decided it would probably get more traffic here. Thanks!

Welcome Evil. I'm a fellow daydreamer of the twisted and bizarre. Never has one about hurting someone (pet or other) close to me, but I've had the worries before. Here's a for instance... I leave the house for work. Halfway through the day I realize I can't remember if I locked the door behind me or not. Now I'm imagining someone walking into my house and stealing everything I've worked so hard for. It makes me angry. Now I come home and catch the bloody thief in the act. That's all we'll say. It's not often that this happens but once in a while my mind runs off with this kind of thing. My therapist says it's due to anger management issues. Happens a TON less now that I don't get so upset anymore.

OH YES YES YES I do this all the time be cause you have to know what might happen so you can not be there when it does. Or make sure you do leave if it does. I think about what I will say if some thing happens. I plan what I will do and where I will go (probably run and jump up into my tree.) jj

You aren't alone....I used to do it while younger with the what it's & how would I react to a future event given different senarios. It kinda went away for years.....NOW it's been untolerable since last year. I nightmere about what happened & those put me into worse situations that the actual one. Leaves me messed up for the rest of the day.

I would like to PM you with my experience, if that would be ok. It is still hard to talk about publicly. Please let me know if that is OK. Believe me, your not alone.

Yes Jen that is fine. Thanks to all that have replied. I feel a little less alone, knowing that there are people out there experiencing the same things. Although it seems somewhat different then just planning ahead. It's more of playing out every possible scenario concerning anything and everything.

I may be wrong, but I believe i know what you mean evil. i find i have a tendancy to start daydreaming, just as people normally do, mind wandering aimlessly, but sometimes (and at times really often) it turns toward detailed thinking about an extremely strange and more often than not, violent, situation. Usually, I will suddenly stop and think, what the h**l am i thinking about that for? It's pretty scary. I hope we are talking about the same thing. In any event, I think you have a lot of company. I have no idea what it means, but I'd sure love to find out.
All I can suggest, is that you remind yourself you have no intention of doing any such thing and just blow it off like lint. Forget about it. I just tell myself it was just foolishness and to forget all about it. Surprisingly, it works (usually.) HTH
