OMG, what a wonderful thread! i LOVE this stuff! oh, i hope this goes far!

"ring around the posey" was actually a song written about death during a plague and children today sing it as a joyful play song. "ring around the rosey" the distinctive mark for this plague, "pocket full of posey" was a tradition done going to the burials. "ashews, ashews" the massive sneezing and URI syptoms going with it. "we all fall down".

i was astonished when i heard that.

when an average size mare is giving birth, she is exerting 2500 lbs of pressure per square inch with her pushing. that's why most colt births are achieved so quickly.

The birth of a male child is actually quite miraculous. Many very early conceptions of males are lost before they ever begin because the female body actually views it as an invasion of the body and fights it off. So be extra greatful for your sons!

I knew pearls diminished from anything practically... but hadn't realized vinegar was quicker. (Learned with my first peals not to use a cleanser, etc. wipe them off when done wearing them. Ah, I love to put on a pearl necklace when it's all stiff and then realize as it warms up to the body and lays along with curves of the neck...)

The characters Bert and Ernie on Sesame Street were named after Bert the cop and Ernie the taxi driver in Frank Capra's "Its A Wonderful Life"

Hmmm maybe that was his personal plane? The plane that crashed was a charter, with a hired pilot for the trip.

just found this, sorry. </font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>
American Pie is supposed to be the name of the plane that crashed, containing the three guys that died. This is not true.

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post"> American Pie - annotations

But you bring up another good topic for thread: urban myths!

These threads really need to be in the ...Other Fun Things Forum, don't you think?
