I have been so dang forgetful this last week. Like I remember dr.s appointments and things like that. I can even remember a page from a book I read last week. But I keep forgetting little things. Like for the past wek, every night my husband has been reminding me to call the electric company. I don't even think about it till it's too late to call them. I have to get my papaw's truck transferred and insurance on it but I don't think about it till night time. Then I get frustrated with my self. And scared something is happening to my brain to make me forget stuff. Is it my deprssion and anxiety doing this? Or my med (Celexa)? I am worried about it.

I keep post-it notes by my chair/with me in my purse and write reminders all the time. I also have an ongoing "galactic" to-do list that I keep adding to and crossing off from as I do things. I work with that first thing in the morning when I'm writing in my journal.

You know, both the depression and anxiety can do that. Stress hormones make it hard to focus on several things at once, so little stuff that's not "in front of you" can get jettisoned in favor of what the brain thinks is the real "threat". The lists and all are good suggestions. Have you talked to your P-doc? HUggs

Yes, in my experience both depression and anxiety can effect memory. And for sure if you are AD then remembering things is an extra challenge. I depend on lists to remind me of things I need to do and I also use them to motivate me to do something when I am in avoidance mode (like now).
Anxiety can even cause you to forget obvious things. I sometimes can't even remember my own son's name. When he was a baby I would just call him 'junior' because I couldn't remember his name. He is 16 and still there are times when I have to think hard to remember his name. I am hopeless with work clients and have to play lots of mind tricks to try to remember names of people I have been working with for years and years. Keep a list for those tasks that skip your memory and then you won't have to try to remember. |
