This is an annoncement to myself as well- I'm on disability because I'm disabled!
This lets me let go of so much that I don't need and isn't helpfull. . .I don't need more than I have- I don't need to own property and a house again. I'm in a lovely little rented house that I would hate to leave if I was gifted a mansion free and clear! Its charming and warm with good nieghbors on a tree lined street where every modest little house is neatly kept and the little gardens are tended with flowers. Property I don;t need to own- I have a little part-time job thats in a park on 3000 acres of forrest with deer and birds and fish in the streams and pond. I don't need to hold on to the second job just to make a little more money because it doesnt make me more happy and takes too much time out of my time here at home with my husband and daughter.
So I'm disabled- so its a mental disability- I don't care who knows I'm too old to play hide and seek with my reality- my disability was hard earned and I came by it honestly and there are people who I can let take care of me . I'm not too proud to say I need help because I have this disability. I also have the ability to make art and to write and to love and laugh and so I'm as wealthy as Ill ever be right now. My kids can inherit that from me- a smiling peacefull mother- not her possessions. They will travel lighter and farther with that than anything that needs dusting and mowing.

KathyAnita,

I rejoice in your peace and insight on being disabled. If I could have your attitude all the time, my heart and mind would rest so much easier. May I add a copy of your post to my collection of sayings and writings that help me when I fall into despair about being disabled? You are so wise.

January

Thank you.

You've certainly said some "right" words, and I hope for you that you can hang onto them. It is good that you don't feel like you have to keep it a secret, but IRL, it's best to not elaborate to others. They truly do not understand, and many choose to not have friends that are high maintanance.

this is liberating exactly because i have historically attracted high maintenance "friends" by keeping my secrets and being at the service of all- like a blank canvas that anyone could smear their images on.

im basically low maintenance and would sooner be put in 6 point restraint than act out in front of others.
I say if people know or come to know so be it and bring it on. I've been taken apart and reconfigured by the best of them and im still walking the earth.

I very much like how you stated this and can find much in common with my own experience and behavior.

Kathy, this reminds me of the old story of the Zen monk who, for years and years, practiced only drawing a single line like " l ." And later when asked why, he drew the line on the wall and it split the wall in two. You are so ready to live, it's like once you found your light switch, the energy is atomic. And now look, you share the truth of it this little bit, and everyone can see it. I'm printing it too.

It's the heart of conciousness that receives a gift and then shares it with many. True beauty.
