That's the best way I can think to describe it, is I feel like I'm having a sort of out of body experience. I feel a bit like I do when I'm about to have a panic attack, but minus the panic. Everything jsut goes out of focus. Sometimes I feel kind of like I'm high, but it's not pleasant. Like I'm seeing things from outside myself, or I'm trapped deep somewhere else inside my self and nothing feels real. I really don't know how to explain it. It happens every now and then, and it hasn't bothered me quite so much in the past. It happend to me tonight though when I was with a friend and I noticed it so much more because I was in a situation where I had to actually move and communicate with someone else, if that makes any sense. It happend quite suddenly too. We were talking and I just suddenly I felt like I was somewhere else and nothing felt real, like I was in a dream. I really wanted to tell my friend I was feeling this, but I felt like I couldn't. I just went on autopilot, in a sense. I jsut simply responded to things she said and stared at her, because I didn't know what else to do. I think she noticed something was wrong, but she didn't say anything. I felt like I wasn't me in a way. I feel fine now, I just really don't want that to happen again, especially in social situations. Does anyone have any insight on what this may be? I really don't like it.

It may be depersonalization. You may wanna look it up online because I don't know if that is what you experienced. I recommend wiki if you wanna look it up. I hope you are feeling better now and if you need to talk we are here.

Sounds like you dissociate. Sometimes, people who are depresed can get these wierd feelings also. I know I do when I am very stressed. I suspect that there are really a lot of people who do it. Sometimes one can get triggered by music, light changes, smells, or topics of conversation. You may not even know what it is that sets it off.
If it bothers you, take it up with your T, if you have one. It might help to concetrate on your breathing when it happens to bring you back to yourself. That might take some practice, though. It can be scary, but I don't hink that at this point, it's something you have to be afraid of. Huggs

I agree with others. This sounds like you are dissociating and experiencing depersonalization and/or derealization. Both of these things can cause these sorts of perceptions and experiences and can occur before, during, and after an anxiety/panic attack.

If you are having these types of experiences and your anxiety and symptoms are causing a disturbance in your life, it would be a good idea to seek out some counseling to help you work through what may be causing these attacks.

You ARE NOT crazy, and if you speak with a counselor about this they will know you are not crazy too. A lot of people have these experiences, including myself...but you can work towards getting rid of these symptoms and issues.

You're not alone.

Here's the Wiki link if you would like to check it out.

Spacecase,

Much agreement with the others. I didn't realize I did such things until later in life. It took my pdoc to raise my awareness in order to cope in an enlightened manner.

Stay here, post often.

Spacecase,

Can I ask you a personal question......how old are you and have you had a physical check with your doctor lately?

I agree with what everyone else has said......it is definitely true....

But thyroid and general hormone check would be good as well......

Take care....

Michah

Thankyou everyone, I will deffinitely read up on depersonalization and dissociation.

In response to Michah, I'm 18. I haven't seen a doctor in a while and I'm starting to think that it'd be a good idea to visit him soon...
Thanks for this!
