I graduated high school last year and didn't have the funding for college and can't find a job so I am home alone for 10 hours a day. In the past few months I have started feeling really guilty about everything. I cook and clean compulsively for hours a day. I started mothering everyone is my house. I have to fix every problem in my house and I feel like I need to make everyone happy. I only leave my house once a week because I dont have a car. I cry and feel really nervous if everyone around me is not pleased.. I dont know if something is wrong with me.. or if this is just my personality now..

It sounds like you have a little agoriphobia going on.. You really need to get out of the house more.. DAo you have friends you can call and go out for coffee or to see a movie or something.. Do you have any hobbies?? You need to find some distraction to break up the monotiny of your day.. You have to much time on your hands..Don't give up I am sure others here will have more input for you..Take care!!

Welcome, Golightly. It is tough not being able to find a job. What specifically do you feel guilty about? Why do you feel it is your responsibility to keep everyone else happy?
Have you considered seeing a professional to get your thoughts sorted out? |

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time. ![]() You know, life transitions can be very stressful. Even ones that are supposed to be happy and exciting, like graduating high school. I don't think anything is wrong with you, and I don't think this is just your personality now. It just sounds like maybe you are little lost.... I agree that you need to get of the house more. Even if you can't find a job, could you find a place to volunteer? Sometimes volunteer work can actually lead to job opportunities, and if nothing else it looks good on a job application. Did you have any interests or hobbies in highschool? Do you keep in touch with any friends or classmates? Another thing you might think of doing with all your free time now, is to figure out a way to go to college. Even if it is just a few classes a semester. There are lots of ways to apply for scholarships, grants, and loans. A little research on the internet may surprise you. Wishing you the best.... ![]() ![]() |

Hi and welcome to PC. If you are stuck in the house because you don't have a way out then maybe it's because the only people you see are the people you live with and you don't want to cause any stress between you and those you live with and you over compensate? Also maybe you feel like you don't contribute enough because you don;t have money coming in? Don't let yourself or others judge you by how much money you can make or throw around. You cook and clean and take care of the house and that is a hard job so you have no reason to feel guilty. Lastly, don't keep yourself penned up in a house all day. Go for a walk or window shopping or something. Take it from an agoraphobic, living in a bubble is not for everyone.

Isolation....... is not a good thing when it comes in massive chunks.
Maybe try doing a volunteer job with people so you can get used to being around others. People are social beings. It might also help your self esteem. Any volunteer work is also going to look good on a resume. |
