After 3 years of having ferrets running around my feet all the time, the house is going to be empty. I'm taking them to the shelter in preparation of my move at 7:30 pm on Thursday. I'm completely ripped to shreds over this. These little guys have been my children for as long as I can remember. I actually have a hard time remembering life without their little ferret antics and their constant crapping in the corners. This royally sucks. But the shelter mom can care for them better than I can now... and MUCH better than I'll be able to after the move. This sucks SOOOOOO much.

This is so sad Ryan... have a good cry... and remember, one day you can get and help more/other ferrets. TC of yourself. Be safe on that move, you hear?

By taking them back to the shelter mom you are doing the most loving responsible thing you can for your babies.

I'm sorry this hurts so much Ryan Well, the ferrets go to the shelter on Thursday

Your doing this shows your love for them. It just stinks that the responsible thing is one of the more painful things to do.

Well, the ferrets go to the shelter on Thursday ((Ryan)) Well, the ferrets go to the shelter on Thursday

Have a safe move cowboy and I wish this hurt less for you.

Ryan, I agree with zh on this. I know how very difficult it is, but I am sure they will be taken care of by the shelter mom. Decisions like this are never easy, especially when we are animal lovers and take our pets as family members.
For me, my 2 "girls" (dogs) are my babies, they are a lot of work but kids are too. Giving either one up would devastate me, and if the time comes (I hope never) I do not know what I'd do. I know you are the best "ferret dad", and maybe, just maybe knowing in your mind they'll be okay can help. I'm sure this woman will take them on as her baby.
They are so cute, how can she not.
Try to take care,
Roe

I'm so sorry you have to do this. Well, the ferrets go to the shelter on Thursday I recently had to give away my yorkie because we moved near a busy street and he was always sneaking out of the house (when kiddos would open a door) and getting into the busy street. I was scared to death he was going to be hit by a car. It broke my heart but I knew it was best for him...my sweet little Schatze.

I know what it's like to have them run around and have to give them up. Your loss has made me remember what it is like to have them go. I have shed some tears both fo the ones that I have given up and also for the ones that you are being seperated from. I pray for a safe trip and you to get home safe.

I spent today playing with them. Their little eyes told me that they had no idea they were being given away. Tomorrow (Thursday) I'll bathe them and clip their nails for the last time. I wonder what will be going through their little minds when they don't see me anymore. I wonder if they'll remember me after the shelter mom has found them permanent homes. I hate myself for having to do this.

I know this is so hard for you to do- but please remember that you have given these cute little ones such a good home and taken very good care of them. they have been lucky to have you as a "dad". and now you are going to see to it that they will go to other loving homes .please be gentle with yourself..

Ryan,

I can really feel your sadness. I think ferrets are one of the cutest critters that there is. I don't think their minds ever stop thinking of things to get into & finding crazy things to do....creating all kinds of laughter which is great medicine for our illnesses. Knowing that they will be taken care of & good loving homes will be found for them can give you some relief but nothing can take care of the emptiness that you feel without them. That is one critter I have always wanted as a pet only Calif doesn't allow them as pets...hopefully that will change with our Governor because he ownes them....so don't think they will be illegal for long.

I really hope your move will go well....keeping busy with that will fill your mind for a while until you get settled. You are such a great daddy to them...I am sure they will miss you too. I can't imagine having to give even one of my eskies away...I tried several times with a couple when I felt they would have a better home but they always found a way to come back to my home. How they could miss sharing a home with 10 others is beyond me. I think critters choose us more than us choosing them....even those that I breed.

Take care & know that the shelter will provide a good place until a permanent home can be found for your babies...It is good to know that people love their critters as their children like I do....even my horses are my babies...especially Izzabelle who I bonded with at 1 1/2 hours after birth. I'm sure after you get settled, you will be able to have babies again...not that they will take the place of, but you are such a good daddy I can't imagine you being without critter children again.

Hope all goes well & keep us posted once you get settled,
Debbie
