Ok I was wondering if anyone who is suffering with depression is on disability. I suffer from severe depression, panic disorder, agoraphobia, & some other stuff. I applied for disablility almost a year ago because the doctors that I have been to told me that's what I needed to do because I need to see someone who specializes in this because I have been through pretty much every medicine they make. I got a lawyer and I'm supposed to be going before a judge in a few months. I'm not able to work anymore due to this. My body has just gotten to where it can't handle much. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi angie,
I was able to get on disablility at the age of 19 due to the severe depression I have. I was also diagnosed with borderline, but I really don't think that mattered. I think it has to do with the paperwork that the doctors and all the other people that see/seen you have done. I am not an expert in this because my social worker did most of the work for me.
I wish you luck and please keep us informed. Good luck and take care.
Jen

Thank you. I will keep ya'll posted. How long did it take them to approve you? I'm supposed to go into inpatient care once I'm approved. So they can try to figure out where to go from there.

Hi Angie

I just got my disability but not in the US so I dont know what rules apply, but like Jen says get your paperwork precise and in order and signed off by the right people and if you already have an experienced lawyer you are on your way. It took me some time to get mine, but it was a different jurisdiction to yours so I dont know what to say in relation to the process. Sorry cant be of more help but good luck

Oh your fine. Thank you. My lawyer is taking care of everything. And I live in Texas so I know it's a little harder here.

Angie,
I got approved in a little over 3 months but that is very rare here in the US...at least from what I have heard. A lot of work went into getting the disability, and I am greatful to having it. It has saved me from a lot of stuff. I hope some of this helps.

Angie,
I got disability based on PTSD, Depression, Anxiety disorders, you will need to fit certain criteria with the government SS plan, if your doctors' support you and you have a good SSD lawyer, then you have a good chance. I got denied the first application, it then took me a full year to get in front of a judge and get awarded. they paid a retro check also. If you get denied then you'll appeal it and go in front of a judge. just be forwarned, the judges want every little detail on how your conditions affect you daily. Good luck. I am thrilled to see you have a lawyer on your side.

Paddy, How did it go on Monday, did you get approved at the appeal?

Thank you. Yeah I've been very precise on everything I'm doing. And on my panic attacks I've been writing down what time I have them, how long they last, what I was doing when they hit. And I've also been writing down dr appt stuff and what they say. Pretty much everything that I was told to keep up with by my lawyer.

Often it takes more then one try to get on disability. Don't be discouraged if they turn you down at first. You can appeal the decision and get it overturned. Keep a positive outlook and good luck in all your endevors

Thank you. Yeah I've been turned down I think 4 times so far and now I'm going before a judge hopefully soon. I'm going to the dr thursday. This is the first time I've been in long time. And I have a lot to tell them. And they will probably put me in a hospital.

I am on disability, as I was fired from 58 jobs- I was a little 'off' or 'different' mentally, and it showed in small ways, when disability saw the sheer numbers of jobs that fired me- I got disability without even a lawyer, the very first time I applied!!!! Fortuneately, I am in recovery now, and have kept both of my jobs for many years
