well, i've been in therapy for four years now, and at first i was major depressive disorder, which just recently(like 2 months ago) was changed to bipolar disorder II, and my mom has been reading on Borderline Personality disorder, and now that i've read more on it, i do fit better into that than i do BPII. As i was reading the traits, i found myself remebering doing most of those things as a kid..should i mention it to my psychiatrist, or is that self-diagnosing? I just got abilify prescribed to go with my lexapro, but my mom has been on and on about how some symptoms of it are fatal, and it has freaked me out so i havent started it yet...opinions would be appreciated

Hi Rissie.is.back. I've always tried to be as honest and open as possible with my psychiatrist. I try not to get too hung up on a diagnosis since so many of them overlap and symptoms that apply to one also seem to apply to others but it wouldn't hurt to ask. I think almost all of the meds that are prescribed can have adverse side effects but if you are in doubt I'm sure your psychiatrist would address any concerns you and your mom have.
