Hi everyone,
As many of you may know, I'm currently in hospital due to my bipolar. I came in depressed, then became manic, and now I'm slowly getting to the balancing point. I've been here for over 40 days thus far. While we are here, we attend groups on different subjects that helps us, like anger management, depression, bipolar, etc...and at many of these groups a "support system" is mentioned - a group of people that I could talk with to keep them updated on how I'm doing, and receive/give support as well. I have my father as one of my supports, for sure. My friends are very nice, but are not suitable for the role of a support person. They just don't understand mental health well enough. So here comes the big question: If anybody feels healthy enough to be a support, and would like a support as well, please feel free to send me a pm. I could take about 5 supports total, maybe more. I'd like to establish a support system where we can exchange support with each other, check in with each other each day (or bi-weekly, or less often...whatever works ![]() I'll be getting some support once I leave the hospital, but I'd like a closer bond with some people who truly understand where I'm coming from, and I could rely on. Thanks for taking the time to read! ![]() |

Thank you for your kind post.
![]() You're right in the sense that having similar diagnoses would help. In my case, I'd be happy if a support person shared even one of my issues. Those are listed on my profile: Bipolar (manic depression), Suicidal, Panic Attacks, General Anxiety Disorder, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Thanks again for your kind words. They are very appreciated. ![]() |

Sorry, Melissa. I have had many diagnoses over the years but now it is depression. I hope you find the support you seek.

I'm happy for you to PM me. My dx is Bipolar, after initially being dx'd as Major Depressive Episode with psychosis.
My depression is the thing I battle with the most (I only get slighty hypomanic) and I also suffer from anxiety. I feel that 80% of the time i'd be stable enough to offer you the support you require. Going to see my GP tomorrow, to maybe get a referral to a new Pdoc, or alternatively deal straight with him. I have been in hospital twice, once when first starting meds and then 6 weeks later after a OD attempt (Go figure!) |
