I am desperately needing to change certain aspects of myself and I have recently started finding hypnosis audio on youtube, for example for boosting confidence and things like that. It says to keep listening to it every night, I have listened to it a few times and so far no changes. Is there any way I can tell if this is legit or if it is a scam? I am really desperate, I need to change things about myself asap before I get older I don't have time to be scammed by youtube douchebags trying to get channel views.

Hello Shadix: I'm a YouTuber, & I know there's allot of stuff on there that just doesn't work. It may even be well-meaning on the part of the uploader. And, if a person just has a minor problem, & doesn't really care if they solve it or not, then listening to some generic hypnosis vid on YouTube may help... sort of the placebo effect, to some extent.

But, if you have some serious concerns that you feel need to be addressed as quickly as possible then, from my perspective, YouTube is not the place to go. I've never participated in professional hypnosis services. I believe they can be helpful in certain circumstances. But whether or not they are right for you is something that you would need to talk over with whomever it is you are seeing for your regular physical or mental health care. At least this is my perspective with regard to this. Perhaps there will be some other members, here on PC, who will be able to relate experiences they have had using professional hypnosis services. My best wishes to you.

My T and I do lots of Hypno. At first I was very leery... But I finally agreed. The thing is I am aware of everything around me. Its mainly used to connect to the sub consious mind and open up blocked events from my past or helping to build of self esteem and help of remove negative thought processes and it does help lower my chronic pain. I always come out of a session feeling really relaxed and happy.

I am a true believer ... I do think your really need to find a provider T that actually knows what he/she is doing. I could in no way address this type of thing to something on YouTube.

Feel free to Pm for more info if you want

I have seen it demonstrated in a professional setting by a trained psychologist and my clinical supervisor was a trained hypnotherapist. His opinion was that it could start a change process by addressing any subconscious resistance, but the client still needed to take action to maintain any progress. In his experience, he wasn't seeing enough long term benefits with enough of his clients to make it a calling card for new referrals as he had a broad range of skills and experience. He did still use it, but only in specific cases and the clients needed to demonstrate a certain level of motivation and commitment. Mainly things like smoking cessation and weight loss or to eliminate bad habits; less so for serious mental/emotional issues.

I don't believe that it works...Especially when person has the strong character. As for me it's something fantastic.

short answer hypnosis works if you want it to and wont work if you dont want it to. if you are not open minded to it either consciously or unconsciously then its not going to work...the process is simple you put yourself in a state of total relaxation. some people do this on their own others do it through the process of having someone talk them (guide them) into a state of total relaxation. once you are in this state of total relaxation you work on what ever problem you are using the hypnosis for.

Here in NY hypnosis is a choice but is not generally used with working on mental disorders other than being used for relaxation purposes like anxiety, or to stop a bad habit, due to legal issues like false memory syndrome and false mental disorders, false symptoms and other legal issues.

I use it for my own relaxation/anxiety relief.

how do you know its working simplest answer its working if the problem you are using it for is progressing to a healing point. Everyone has their own way of knowing whether a treatment option is working for them or not.

example I know its working because I no longer have the desire to do the bad habit I used it for, I no longer get anxious during stressful meetings.
