I agree. I have never been to that site, but it did honestly make me think of bratty kids. "Don't go play with them, they say they have this, but it's really that... but me, my stuff is real and better."

I use to chat on this website back in 1995 when it was called concernedcounseling.com up until they changed to healthyplace.com. Somethiwmg similar happened back then as well. I do not go there anymore.

I think it's just "pay attention to where you play".

I appreciate the article. I can see how it can seem like kids on a playground with the "I have shinier toys" thing, but seriously...if you're running a website that deals with people's health information, you better be minding your P's and Q's.

First off.....what if Doc John ran his site as these folks seem to be running theirs? Imagine having a feeling of cyber-safety and security within a community of people, online, only to have that community involuntarily packed up and moved to an undisclosed location, with no notice.

I know how I feel when I am looking for connections and there's a glitch in PC and I can't get on. I get nervous.....not only can I not connect with a group of folks I have come to depend on and, in a real sense, trust....but I have a lot of my heart and my life written down on this site. If this place were to disappear, how would I know who had access to my personal info, or what was being done with it.

We all take a risk when we post here, but Doc John runs his site honestly and has earned our trust. I'm glad that he is bringing this up. It allows the folks who maybe don't have the internet smarts to be aware of who else may be out there.

Thanks Doc!!

Not to mention.....HealthyPlace just got totally owned by the Doc!! LOL!!

I agree with Elysium it seems to me too that the owner of the site has been selling domain names over a period of years with inflated traffic numbers because of member numbers as well as visitor numbers.

This is the comment I left there:
Is it possible he sold the domain name for a lot of money and sold it with the inflated traffic? I think that a serial entrepreneur would be more interested in building a business possibility rather than be a philanthropic mental health valiant who pulls the rug out from under those who basically made the site...the members, and they were left feeling vulnerable and without their support base...that is the real issue.

Yes, very wierd, I hate it wen things like that happens. It's more annoying because there's no explanation or warning. You just wake up one day and everything's changed.
