[b]The category 5 hurricane hit South Florida "overnight" in the early morning hours on Sunday, August 24, 1992. The eye was DOUBLE walled and went directly over <me> and Homestead Air Force Base. We were all but flattened... including a specially designed, Stealth Jets hangar with 2 jets and 2 military guards.. another story...The nuclear bunkers also began to succomb and 16 authorized personnel =1, also ran within them, for their lives. Eighteen wheelers could be seen swirling within the tornadoes, an estimated 150+ tornadoes.... another story. While the official count is only 15 deaths, it was because of all the undocumented, and Laws against burying unidentified persons... there were between 2500-5000 die in those short hours. ... another story. 80,000 residences, some often with 3-4 families living there, were utterly destroyed..... many who stayed in South Dade County still aren't living in fully built homes....another story...

Been there, done that. Today the universe honors his memory with a newly named Storm : Katrina... 250 miles away, due by Thursday... but so far, nothing like Andrew, except the fear.

I have to go shopping for food.

I too remember that horrible day...my heart and prayers went out to all Floridans....and it must be scarey to live there this time of year...what makes me mad is that the weather channel gets so hyped up over a storm and excited about it...I know it is not exciting to the people that are living in florida...they should show more compassion.....
take care Sky...praying this storm passes by with NO problems...
