Hi you guys...
Is anyone out there good at researching? My mom feels so alone. I am trying to help my mom find some literature on the psychological impact of undiagnosed hearing loss in children. She lost her hearing almost completely at 4 years old--and was never diagnosed. She's been diagnosed with Bi Polar, Schitzophrenia, Multiple Personalities, etc. We can't seem to find any info--Can anyone point us in a direction that may get us moving in the right direction ...does that make any sense? thanks so much -- even just for reading this... |

Have you tried the local county deaf services bureau? I know they have professionals who fully understand the impacts of hearing impairment. Also, what have you "googled" since plugging in that main question should come up with myriads of info! Welcome, and good hunting!

welcome to PC, b babe!
is your mother seeing dr's and t's? if so, has she discussed this subject with them at all?\ i would say that having hearing loss at such a young age would require a child to have support, teaching, care, etc. to do ok with it at all. if she was never dx'ed then, i can see that she probably didn't have those things. who is she seeing now? take care, kd

Ive done over 4 years of research but not on hearing loss. my work has been on Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID is the new name for Multiple Personality Disorder). you can find my work on NAMI in the messageboard Living With a Personality Disorder and the thread is subject line DID and my handle there is katherine. There is a list of research material located on the thread there and I also placed it here on psych central in the Dissociative Disorders message board. My public library was extremely helpful in my research in locating research materials all over the USA. Local college librarys were also so helpful. Calling community agencies on the topic of research will also bring a wealth of information for you. Just tell them you are doing research and would like any information they have to offer about their agency and the topic of your research. writing to authors of the books you find will also bring information your way. Survivors, authors and professionals were very willing to talk with me and my therapist and send me materials. Good luck and take care.
