I'm on Lamictal for Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. My neurologist was very adamant about being on name brand versus generic because he says active ingredients can vary a lot from company to company and Epilepsy isn't something to chance it with. I tried to fill it for the name brand and, even after my insurance paid their portion, it was over 350.00 dollars. I told him and he wrote a letter asking for them to pay more and they did! Got the bill today and they paid another 245 dollars! So I can have the name brand and it wont cost me a car payment!

I sent him a thank you note today. It's really nice to finally have a doctor who actually cares about me and isn't just pushing me out of his office.

Wonderful! That gives me hope that there are some good docs out there! Generics, when they first come out, can particularly vary in their dosage from pill to pill, my pdoc told me, so he never prescribes a generic until it's been on the market for awhile.....I'm glad your doc is so understanding and concerned about you!

Great news salukigirl!

It is wonderful to make a click with our doctors ~ especially one's that have so many different and intricate influences upon our lives!! I hope that Lamictal is the right AED for you and remains mostly side-effect free.

Very best wishes to you!

Thanks everyone. It took about 7 or 8 years to find a good one so, for those of you who said you wish you knew that feeling, don't give up. I had to keep pushing and pushing for people to listen to me. It's YOUR health, stand up for it!

Thats great news Saluki. I know how difficlt it is with epilepsy to get a medication that works and works well without costing hundreds. Luckily here the government pays all but $30 for singles and families and all but $6 for disability. I hope that your govt can work out a way of doing the same for your citizens. It ensures that no one goes without needed medication.
