Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could just walk into a shop and trade in our life and brain, for a custom made version, tailored to our specific needs...?
It would mean that we could just all be happy and stable.
Sorry, just a crazy brainwave

I've SO been looking for THAT store for a long time; if I find it, I'll definitely let you know.

It's coming, it's coming. It won't be here in our time, of course, but your grandchildren will see it. The brain scientists are in the middle of a huge explosion of both knowledge and technique. I have no doubt at all that by the end of this century most mental diseases will be as much things of the past as smallpox is now. The market for that kind of thing is immense, so it's well worth the time and effort they're lavishing on it now. Take care!

Yay - I'd say something to look forward to, but probably not in our lifetime

They are growing a great many functioning tissues and starting to grow some organs now though so it might very well be a possibility. Brains, unfortunately, I will not be holding my breath especially since we don't understand it in the first place to duplicate it.

i wouldn't be me, i wouldn't know what i know, have the skills i have, the perspective, the friends, the life, the compassion, without all the things that have happened to me, that i would NEVER volunteer for.... so don't look for me in that line~! i'm climbing the mountain in front of me, and the view behind me is just astonishing~!! best wishes to you all, finding the easy solution~!!! I dunno, I would like to have a tweak in the neat section of my brain, just a little one, and a slight adjustment in the math section, just so I can add 2and 2 without a calculator. I figure that won't wreck my identity too much

I'm with Gus. I kinda like being me. Yeah I'd love to not be an alcoholic. I'd love to not have mental health problems. But my journey and my struggles are part of me, and make me who I am. They're part of my personality and they definitely make me a more compassionate person. All my life experiences have gone into shaping who I am, and some of them definitely sucked big and I would have loved not to experience them, they make me who I am. And I'm mostly ok with that person.

YES! I expressed this very thought to my boy friend. He was appalled by the idea because I wouldn't be me anymore. I said that was the idea. God love him for putting up with me, but I can't tell you how many times I've wished for a new brain that would make me smarter, produce chemicals correctly and work faster.
