Thanks yellowted and CBT is free on the NHS but, and here's the catch, there isn't enough money budgeted for mental health care so you go on the list and wait...and wait....and wait. I've waited a year now and there is still no appointment in sight.
I think this thread has shown just how low down the list of priorities Mental Health care is viewed all over the world. |

I'd like to think that in an ideal world everyone would be considered a "do-gooder." There's nothing like working at a job you love to do. Anyone who is in such a place, doing the job because of the good feelings etc, is a do gooder to me...each job in life is important to the whole of society. Maybe a garbage collector wouldn't be considered for this title, but truly, he is! Think of the consequence of not having our trash collected and handled for us.... So for all workers imo.
It's the mindset I guess, of being where you want to be, doing a job you want to do and enjoying the contribution to your own life (doing good work and making suitable wages) plus recognizing the benefit to society. However, I know that the best do-gooders --in the general sense-- consider it a "calling" so-to-speak. It comes from within for me.

There are people who do the job because of the money, and there are people who will do the job in spite of the money, or lack of it. i do the job I do here even though I am paid far less for it here than I would be in the states; a high school teacher makes better money here than I would. I feel my job means something, so I do it. It's nice that I can afford to do it all day as a job (when i have one) so that is a plus, but that is not why I do it. It gives my life a meaning and I serve my God. And it makes a lot more sense than leaping into the breach swinging a bl"#¤#%sword around, sorry all you frustrated ancestors and all
![]() I find those who don't like "do gooders" are those who for some reason don't like being made to look bad. They don't want to bother themselves with reaching out, but they don't want to be pressured to do it or be reminded that they don't. So I hear the term used and think, well, society is made up of people who cooperate in some way to build it up. In some way we all benefit from it. You don't have to be perfect to do so. Got a problem with contributing? Live in a cave. HUGGS all! |
