I am now a college student. I registered for classes yesterday got my books today and start on Monday. I was thinking I had another week to get used to the idea but now with just days ECKKKK. I am an administrative assistant major at a techincal school about 30 minutes from my house. There is an organization here in Arkansas and I think in other states as well that help people get off disablity by teaching them job skills. They are paying 100% for me to go to school all I have to do is maintain a C average which I don't think will be a problem. I do hope that I am able to keep my momentum up and my T told me he would help me by not letting me quit. I have a bad habit of starting something then stopping about half way through and Steve told me he wouldn't let that happen with this. I'm glad I have his support. SOOOOOOOOOO that means I won't be able to be online as much anymore cuz my nose will be to the grindstone. I will miss you guys but will check in every once in awhile.

Jbug,

How wonderful that you now have something valuable for your future to concentrate on. College is a wonderful place to gain knowledge & make us feel good about ourselves, along with giving us something that we can plan our futures with.

I know when I went back to college after many years of disability (to my pdoc surprise), it felt so good to actually accomplish something for myself. I decided that the path I was on wasn't quite right & wanted to go back into the CAD end of interior design....then my mother's cancer got to the point she was dying. Now, a job isn't that necessary except for the fact that after being an aerospace engineer for 15 years before disability, I still seem to think of myself more as my career rather than anything else.

It has changed now so that my horses and riding are now my life & my passion. I think that is going to be what I settle with in the overall scheme of life. It is good to find what we have a passion for that gives us satisfaction with ourselves.

Sounds like you are going to be doing well with your school & that can give you a focus for your future which is what we all seem to need.

Congratulations & good luck...& hard work,
Debbie

Thanks for the support guys. I am getting a B in Math, and I'm not sure about my other courses. I took a test in English last week and thought I did relatively good on it and ended up with a 75. I don't feel to bad because nobody did real good on it. I am hoping that my next test I do better. I am doing pretty good in my computer class and my keyboarding class is sooooooo easy because I already know how to type.

The voc rehab program and the tech school should both be assisting you in accommodations to help ensure your success completing classes.

I got my grade for Business English today and drum roll please........I'm getting a 96%. The grade should go up maybe a point after getting my test back. The instructor has this thing where after the test if you correct your mistakes and put the page in the book the answer is on you get half your points back so she recalculated it and it will go from a C to a B and thus raising my overall grade. I am very happy with my grade. I've never made an A in anything so this is very good news.
