Pdoc apt today was better than expected.Laid it all out and he asked a miillon questions....in the end the diagnosis was BP type 2.

Im not shocked, its in the family....Im actually relieved to some extent that at least it makes sense on why Ive been so "sick",so many times.

I didnt withhold anything....including substance abuse,sh etc...He even went so far as to say that he wasnt concerned about pot use if it helps my anxiety when Im manic. He said he would rather me do that than alcohol. He also wrote a rx for anxiety during mania.....clonazepam.
Hes wrote rx for duralith....once a day ,as well.

What I was esp empressed about was NO sh,suicidal contracts....apparently he doesnt believe in them....Yea!
Said I didnt need to come back unless I felt a need to,leaving my file open in case.I imagine my family doc will take over rx's.P doc wants me to continue with therapy to help me manage or cope better.

Well thanks for reading this post and thank you all for past replies,it meant so much to me to be understood.

Just wanted to know I read your post and recently re-dx with bipolar with Borderline tendencies...

I would think that Continuing with therapy is a good idea...diffently help in the coping area as it sounds there may be some illegal and legal ones that probably are not the best...

I felt the same relief of being understood finally after canning my pdoc/T after 2 1/2 years...

Being diagnosed kinda sucks, but at least for you it makes things official...brings some kinda closure, y'know?

My doc back at home wanted to prescribe me klonopin (clonazepam), but I recently moved after graduating from college, so I haven't been able to see him so that he can prescribe me it. And I haven't heard of Duralith? Maybe I should look it up.

Glad that things are working out for you. Hope the meds work. Keep us posted!

Duralith is just slow release lithium......I was at 450 with lithium, new rx duralith is comparable to 600mgs in one slow release dose.I guess we'll see what happens.

I too am now officially Bipolar. Type 1 with residual depression and paranoia and the addition of Schizoid like psychotic states. I take Depakote ER, Geodon, Ativan when needed and Cogentin for muscle stiffness. Glad you were finally diagnosed. I have a history of mood problems in my family so no surprise diagnosis wise.

(((hug)))

I know the relief of being diagnosed. Too bad it's just the first step in dealing with it.

I of course went to seek help when I became depressed, and the anti-depressant (Lexapro) resulted in me becoming hypomanic, and when I finally got into the pdoc, and well, Bipolar Type 2.

Now I'm on 20 mg of Lexapro, and still on 25 mg of Lamictal (increasing to 100 mg over the next 5 weeks)

I'm a little confused as to why the doc said you didn't have to come back. Managing medication is a big part of what pdocs do, and I personally wouldn't trust my general practice doc to adjust meds that alter my brain chemistry.

Ibujari

I think that may be why my gp looked a little put off when I told him he would be managing meds.
My T said the same thing but also said If he talked to pdoc he would suggest pdoc see me again in a month after starting duralith..I doubt that will happen.....sometimes I think I need an advocate.....Im such a chicken asking for help.

dreamrunner,

When you say you have been "sick" so many times, what exactly does "sick" mean to you, if you don't mind? I'm trying to get my own diagnosis in order.

It is so good to finally know that someone understands you. I was so terrified when I first went to the pdoc and t that they wouldn't believe me.

I wish you the very best.

I'd like to post a correction. I am now diagnosed Schizoaffective, not Bipolar. Thought I'd clear that up.
