So today I have experienced something that often confuses me a great deal. How is it possible that one can feel so incredibly horrible but a great sense of hope at the same time? At one end, feeling like there is no way to feel worse about everything but at the same time feel as though the cloud that has been covering you for so long has suddenly lifted and the first sun of spring is giving energy and life to everything.
There is a hope that lies somewhere among the winter clouds that seem to offer nothing more than cold and dread for all eternity. However, every winter comes to an end and the sun will warm the ground and begin to melt the ice that seem to have been in place forever, so long that it is hard to remember what the colors of spring look like.

Dark dreams.....
Would I sound like a loon if I said that this is the perfect state to be in? You have reached a state of equllibrium....... As love cannot exist without hate or day without night, hope cannot exist without despair. Having both in equal measure, and knowing it for this (in other words neither judging or denying, simply observing) is called mindfulness..... This state that you speak of, is a very good thing..... ![]() All things in moderation and all things in balance..... Take care, and stop occasionally for moments of joy. Michah

Sometimes I am able to realize that such dichotomies are artificial; the situation is actually richer than two ends of a spectrum, all/nothing, black/white, etc.
Winter clouds, cold, snow; some people love that because of the skiing :-) Winter is not just the opposite of summer but its own state to explore. There is nothing "wrong" though with a 50-60 degree winter day. I am corresponding by email with someone in London and we were discussing my trip from Maryland to Florida next month and I captured the two weather reports for today and forwarded them to her; it is below freezing here in Maryland, above 80 where we're going in Florida. Which one is "right", which one is "winter"?
