i have had depression for years. but over the last few months i've done some self-test's and all have pointed to bipoler than just depression, how do i go about bringing this topic up with my G.P? without sounding mad ect... the anti d's i've tried have never really help. i'am now completly drink and drug free so that not a factor.

Can you ask for a referal to a psychiatrist. If you've tried different anti-D's and they haven't helped in the past it might make more sense to see someone with specialized meds knowledge.

Hello, jckat. If your treatment is not working the one providing it needs to know. As splitimage has suggested, getting referred for a psychiatric evaluation may well be of benefit to you.

Hey Jckat,

You can possibly ask your GP that you suspect you may have Bipolar Type 2 by listing your symptoms. If you see a Counsellor or Psych you can ask them.

I was originally just diagnoised with depression until my Mania shone through. Sometimes GP's need more info from us

I agree that giving the info you have gathered to your GP is the first step. Some are comfortable handling psych issues and some are not. I personally prefer a psychiatrist because like any other specialist, they keep up with the latest meds and are experts in their particular field of interest.
