Hmmmm this has had me pondering. No matter how much we seek total silence there is always some form of noise from somewhere!!! Why? Is there ever a split second where there is absolutely no noise at all? Is there such thing as total silence? Is there such thing as total silence? Simply, it doesnt exist absolute unadulterated silence....

Tracylee,

I have pondered this question myself a bunch of times. I do not beleive that total silence exsists. I have sat in what seems to be an empty, silent room. Even still, I can hear things. Weather in is far or even things in my own head. I have never heard pure silence.

Huggles,

I don't think that total silence exists...there is always some external noise...or in my case, internal noise. I can always hear my thoughts, desires, wants, needs, etc, going on inside my head.

Yeah, it does! At the bottom of Carlsbad Caverns. There's total darkness, too. Can't see your hand at the tip of your nose. Is there such thing as total silence?

perception . . . if you cannot perceive it, does it exist?
it's like the question of reality . . .

LMAO No, I meant the caverns! I've never been to outer space so I wouldn't know, but I would imagine it's dead quiet out there! LOL

total ? silence ? Well, considering the earth herself is full of sounds, .... How's about one of those sensory deprivation booths. At least then you only hear your own body's noises, but, sielnce, nah, I don't think so, unless you're deaf.

Gotta be deaf. You'll always hear your own breathing, even in the forest.
