This article by By J.T. Junig, MD, PhD, says what I have been thinking for years. Because of the Guidelines, I am constrained from relating what I have said to my "representatives." Nonetheless, the machinations of Big Pharma, opportunists, some mental health professionals, the FDA and some of our politicos amount to tactics employed by snake oil salesmen, scam artists and flim flam men. http://blogs.psychcentral.com/epidem...or-scoundrels/

No wonder so many consumers feel like they have been bamboozled, hoodwinked and hornswoggled.
Thanks for this!

Medicine cannot cure anything; it can only help while the body marshals its own curative powers or, if those have been burnt through/damaged beyond help, it might make us a bit more comfortable. Botox cures wrinkles too. Meanwhile, anyone needing a dermatologist in my area has a heck of a long wait because cosmetic procedures pay more than legit skin problems. My husband had to be operated on to have suspicious skin lesions taken off by a general surgeon instead.

'scuse my simplicity but where did a safe withdrawal of an opiate derivitive using a method of reducing the drug til no longer addicted/seizures, etc. go? in my own experience i became physically addicted to xanex. my doc was irresponsible, and didn't follow the pdr guidelines for length of use. another doc slowly weaned me off xanex...took about a year all total due to a grand mal seizure at the detox/alcohol 'cause they cold turkey-ed me. their wrongdoing.
as for the mental addiction why is it not recommended a person use a 12 step program of recovery??!!! it's FREE. no pharma needed.
i understand what the article is saying. pharma just creates new solutions that resemble the old demon. oh yeah, then pharma makes no money.
but why not a simpler and effective approach altogether? slow, responsible withdrawal of the drug with the help of a doc and a 12 step program. am i missing something here? what say you?
