not funny

Just read a discussion on a non mental health related website, it was about dogs and to breed or not to breed actually, and someone who disagreed with another person's opinion, told them to "Got get a mental health evaluation".
Statements like that make me so incredibly mad. It's not funny. There is NOTHING funny about mental illness. People like that and their ignorance are exactly what hurts everyone with an actual MI.

I'm so angry right now, I'm speechless.

Maybe I'm overreacting, I don't know, but I simply can not STAND it when people throw around things like that.

I don't know. I laugh at mine labels. With certain people in the chat we present our diagnosis via emotes (some are SOOO easy to do!)

But on the other hand I get what you mean. I hate when people are flippant about certain things. It is one thing to laugh at it when you experience it first hand and other thing when outsider does it.

I think it is one of those in group things... I can joke about Aspi's, Bisexuals, Depressed folk... bot wouldn't stray into one I didn't have.

Oh, that one wasn't meant as a joke, people were being really nasty to each other. They're weren't kidding around or anything like that.

So true! There's a lot of name calling on that board anyway. I never participate anymore because of that, just read sometimes.

Ignorance is so hard to deal with sometimes and can make us so angry.

As I have gotten older I have mellowed a bit and can now try to enlighten those who are uneducated and spew their ignorance. Sometimes people will listen, sometimes they rather stay within their ignorance (well it is bliss right???). I've also come to learn that sometimes it's not worth my time and effort and I have to just let them go and go on about my day and life.

Usually I just remind myself that at some point, that individual will experience someone else's ignorance....what goes comes around goes around no?

Oh no no no, it's not this board!!! It's actually the pet forum on Craigslist. They are nasty little creatures there, but every now and then they have some good information on there.

So sorry this has upset you, I feel for the guy because of his ignorance. Just because someone doesn't agree with him he thinks they have mental health issues, He's the one with the issues!

I used to be bothered by other peoples ignorance. Name calling is nasty and when it happens I say so. Then I drop it. I have to watch what may get stuck in my head. That's when "letting it go" helps me to not cling on to my anger.

Oh That makes sense! Any board on Craigslist seems disfunctional, at best. I've seen the meanest, nastiest people there. Sometimes ignorance has to be ignored or the stress will harm you. I'm sorry you were upset.

That is so true! That's why I never post there. I just go and read, because sometimes you can get good information. But those people are so incredibly nasty.
