I am not sure whether it is appropriate to post this to the forums here... If it is not, then I'm sorry about that... But I wanted to know...

Does anyone know of a message board that is devoted to discussion / debate of psychoanalytic theory?

Preferably... More professional rather than consumer (though without restriction on who may join up, I guess)

Or...

Any theorietical orientation really...

Have been looking via google but having a little trouble finding (probably not using the best search terms lol)

Any suggestions gratefully received.

You could send them on via PM if you would prefer.

Thanks.

I don't know of any, but do they have to be message boards? You could try Yahoo! groups and other email lists. If you're looking for a professional discussion/debate, you might try finding websites on the topic and contacting the webmaster to see if s/he knows of any such boards. You might also look on Google for "message board" or "forum" or "board" and "database" or "directory" or "links" to see if you can find sites that list lots of them, then search on those sites.

You might try ISSD they have a professionals only board.

As for non professionals debates on this you most likely wont find any because alot of mentally ill people don't know alot of the professional side of psychanalitical theorys. They know they are hurting and with what and their treatment plans but unless they are a professional or have access to professional analysis research and material they have none to little knowlege of this stuff in order to enter and discuss/debate analitical theorys.

If you find any, I'd like to know to because I am majoring in addiction counseling and might want to visit some in order to learn more about the different theoretical approaches. I will of course have a course on counseling theory in the future.

thanks for the suggestions.

regarding 'non-professional debates' it depends on who gets to count as a professional and who does not. boards that are restricted to members of societies or people with certain kinds of qualifications aren' t of much use to me because they wouldn't let me join in.

it is true that a lot of people who are mentally ill don't know a lot about and / or have much of an interest in theory. but then it is also true that a lot of people who aren't mentally ill don't know a lot about and / or have much of an interest in theory either.

i'm just trying to find something suitable...

thanks.
