Put Down Your Burdens
A professor was giving a lecture to his students on stress management. He raised a glass of water and asked the audience, "How heavy do you think this glass of water is?" The students' answers ranged from 20g to 500gm. "It does not matter on the absolute weight. It depends on how long you hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it is OK. If I hold it for an hour, I will have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you will have to call an ambulance. It is the exact same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes." "If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, we will not be able to carry on, the burden becoming increasingly heavier." "What you have to do is to put the glass down, rest for a while before holding it up again." We have to put down the burden periodically, so that we can be refreshed and are able to carry on. Whatever burdens you are having now on your shoulders, let it down for a moment if you can. Pick it up again later when you have rested... Rest and relax. |

...
Would you really have to call an ambulance for holding some water for a day? o.o

This is a very wonderful advice & makes complete sense. The longer you hold on to something that may only seem like a small amount to one person may seem like a ton to someone else. And no matter how long you hold it, it does become too heavy to hold no matter how much weight it seems to anyone.
It is good to take a break & we all need to know that......sometimes we come to a place where it is impossible to take that break & the mind just won't allow that break to be taken.....& sometimes we need help to take that break when we can't do it ourselves. It is important for us to understand when we are in the state where we need the help. I have also encountered times where I know I need the help, but can't find the help anywhere around. That is when I get scared & like now, am trying my hardest to find something that will work. The most important part is to remember not to give up.....sooner or later, the help will show up.....& the glass will be removed from our hand before we spill it all over ourselves. Thanks for the thought......it is wonderful for us to all remember, Debbie

i've been tring to contact NAMI for about two months now. even before Davey ever mentioned them. they are 100 miles from me and are yet to return a call. i so want a support group!! i think it would help me to get rid of some of this, if i had like-minded people to help me get it off of me.

time0, i wasn't meaning to hi-jack the thread. just making the point that sometimes, as julia said, the help isn't here.

NP Pat.
I'm just sharing these words with all of you. I'm struggling very hard here too so I understand. We can only do the best we can and we should be proud that we are trying and not quitting. ![]() ![]() |

Ohhhhhh {{{{{time0}}}}}!! This couldn't have been posted at a better time for me. I tend to hold on to things and totally stress myself out. In addition to not holding onto things too long at a time, I need to remember "one day at a time."
Thank you for posting that reminder! ![]() P.S. Mortimer - that was too funny! I needed that chuckle too! ![]()
