I've got my phone appointment for my application for SSDI(disability) today at 1:30 pm. I am really nervous about this.Scared I might flub something up or that I havent remembered enough information for them. I've tried so hard to remember. Its so frustrating! I just really want this to go well is all. I need it to. Please just keep your thoughts with me for today. I'd appreciate it so much!

Hi Beth,

Everyone, and I do mean everyone, gets nervous when he/she goes through this. I'm sure you've written everything down that you need to tell the person who is going to call. Go through and highlight the different points or put large numbers next to them. That way when you're nervous you can clearly see where each point ends and begins. Make sure you have a notebook and pen beside you so you can take notes.

Get a cold damp wash cloth and keep it by the phone. That way when you get nervous you can hold it with one hand and press it to your face and neck or just hold it. It really helps with anxiety and panic.

Above all, remember this is the first step of a long process. You can't mess this up because they'll just come back and ask for more information if they need it.

Hugs,

Jan

Of course, that had to happen, eh? Ever notice how all that stuff has to happen, one bad thing after the other, but somehow, eventually, things get better.
Man, when things are going good, I have this underlying feeling that goes like this, "okay, it's too good to be true, something is going to go wrong". Just my, dark humour about how life goes for most of us, sometimes.
Cheer up, things will get better. Wish me luck please~
Take care,
Roe

BTW
What's worse than the water heater breaking, is having only well water and the power going out, needing a shower, having water to drink and use to flush toilets, that really is a bummer. Wish me luck please~ That should have taught me by now to shower the night before and wash my hair . . . I use to do that when I didn't have to worry, use to live where town water came in to the homes. Oh well, another inconveniance, eh? Ha!ha!

What she said! Wish me luck please~

One of the most important things I learned was to keep records of each doctor's visit, T visit, shrink visit! If they'll do it for you, get a copy of what they put in THEIR file! The thicker YOUR file, the better! Be seen for EVERYTHING, including hang nails! Have your T write up a report stating why he/she thinks you need to be on disability. If you have any weight related problems, have your MD write a report up, too.

If you're asked to see "their" doctors, play up every little thing! BUT don't worry when they say that THEY don't find any problems. That's what they're paid to say.

Keep track of everytime you try to work, like your last stint in a beauty shop. Write down "how hard" it was for you and any adverse effects it had on you like anxiety and anything physical. Even things that you normally try to play down, DON'T! Remember to switch gears in your mind. You're not applying for a job here! You're trying to prove why you CAN'T work. This one was a toughy for me. I was used to playing down my difficulties but this isn't the time, Beth. It's time to really bring up those seemingly little things that we normally try to hide... like FORGETTING proceedures and/or instructions. It's not that you're stupid, it's that ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION keep you from remembering! Meds will also do that to you, but you NEED to be on your meds.

This is for the long run, ok? It's not for just today. Don't remember ever having a phone interview but it can't be that demanding, I wouldn't think. Jan has some pretty good pointers. You might want to write them down or print out her post. Wish me luck please~

BEST OF LUCK, BETH!!! Wish me luck please~
XXXXXXXXXX <-- that's all my fingers and toes crossed for you!

{*{*{*{* ALL OF YOU *}*}*}*} Wish me luck please~Wish me luck please~Wish me luck please~Your love and support means so much to me. I was so scared of messing things up...Kinda known for that ya know! I think it went as well as possible though.. except for a couple things lol.

I got there 20 minutes early like my case manager asked in case they called early. BUT my case manager had to call them cause they never called us like they were supposed to. We waited 45 minutes for them to call. The appointment time was correct that we had .So this was a miscommunication on their part. They said they would call us back when they got things straightened out. OOOOOOOK that took another 15 minutes. My appt was at 1:30 pm... started at 2:30 pm ... ended at 4:00 pm. And they want to know everything! OHh thats another thing.. we could hardly hear the lady. So we ended up putting her on speaker phone so I had another set of ears to help me hear her questions. Which helped alot! SO I should hear from them in about 90 days whether or not I get accepted or denied.I put in for my mental and physical disabilities. The amount is decent and will give me some independence from my husband. I just hope and pray this goes thru . If it doesnt I will appeal. And most likely hire a lawyer to help me fight for it.

Again I am so touched by all your replies. Thank you so much! Love you all!!! Wish me luck please~ Wish me luck please~

Beth I have been waiting now about 3 months. Here they say like 3 to 6 months on any kind of decision. I am on pins and needles right now because it could be any day now. I am really glad you did this and if you get it you will feel so much better about yourself and your situation. Good luck

Good luck! It's really not as rough as most people think. They'll help you out, too. Just hang in there and try to relax a little.

I'm so glad that part's over for you! I remember doing that. It was difficult, because so much hinged on that phone call I felt.

Good luck!
