Ive had a bi polar diagnosis for 12 years and have dealt with both predictabe moos swings and rapid cycling. I'm my mania I'm implusive, gregarious at one moment then pushing people away at the next. When I crash into depression I isolate, feel alone, desolate and like nobody wants me. I just got diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. I've read up on some of the characteristics and am trying to differentiate between the two and how they differ that greatly. Is BPD just a broader terminology or are it's traits so specific to it's own MH disorder much more severe?

From what I have read, I gather that if you are going along okay in life and hit a bump, up and/or down, but then recover when it's over, that's bipolar, but if you never seem to get your feet under you and there's no rest for the weary, then that's a personality disorder.

I am in the same position. There is a lot of overlap in the criteria. I think borderline personality disorder (or emotional stability disorder) adds an intense fear of abandonment and a more constant state of rage.
