Hi everyone, I'm not sure where I should put this message, because it doesn't fit into any of the other categories, so I'll pu it here and re-post it in a couple other places...
Anyway, I've always felt like there was something wrong with me, but I was never quite sure what. After reading the info on personality disorders on this website, I am pretty sure I have Antisocial Personality Disorder. This website (and others I have found) describe this disorder as occuring since age 15 (in my case I realize these behaviors started happening a lot earlier, like age 7 or 8) failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors; deceitfulness and repeated lying (even over stupid, unimportant stuff); impulsivity or faliure to plan ahead; irritability; reckless disregard for safety; consistent irresponsibility; and lack of remorse. I fit all the symptoms to a tee. These behaviors are beginning to have a severe negative impact on my relationships with friends, family members, girlfriends, etc, but, in spite of all the problems and grief that it's causing me, I can't change my behaviors. Is there anyone here who can help???? |

Hey there... you posted in the right place. We're not doctors here so we can't diagnose but we can sure try to help by caring and supporting you. Other than that, you might want to get a referral to a therapist that can deal with the problems you are having.
Keep posting. Don't be afraid to share. For the most part, we are a caring, supportive group. ![]() ![]()

Welcome to the forums...as SeptemberMorn says, you will find many warm and supportive people here.
I don't have a lot of familiarity with antisocial personality disorder, but I seem to recall reading or hearing that it is very difficult to treat, so it is not surprising that you have been unsuccessful in changing these behaviors on your own. I think it would be very helpful for you to look for a therapist who can work with you and give you tools to help alter those destructive behaviors. Good luck, and let us know how you are doing. mj
