I found out about this yesterday, after getting my taxes done. The tax place called me in the evening and said that my tax forms couldn't go through because Social Security has already processed taxes with my social security number. Doggone it!!

I now get to go back tomarrow and process my taxes in some other way. I looked the issue up online, which advised me to contact the 3 credit lines (I can't recall their names). I did that today, and then tried to look up info from my creditors. Ooops! Wrong way ~ I should have looked it up before I announced the identity thing. Then, I went to some government site and reported it there.

What a big pain in the arse! Has anyone had this trouble here?

Oh no Shezbut, but I do have Lifelock and they do protect and watch out for me.

I hope you get some good advice here. Although, you should call all the credit card companies and prevent anyone from using your credit line. Also alert your bank too and even change your account numbers.

Im so sorry! So they grabbed your refund & that's all you know of? That may have been the whole scam ... let's hope so!

I neighbor at my condo stole an email address & used it to open an acct with eBay in my name a couple decades ago, sold ripped-off movie DVDs via mail. I was in the courts for years with that one but finally everyone seemed to realize it was a scam & eventually caught the guy.

Good luck. Sure hope this all shakes out quickly!

Yikes Roadie!

Horrible that it took so long for your criminal neighbor to be caught.

Glad that it's all settled for you now though.

Thank you for the hopes!

Geeze Shezbut - sorry this happenned. It sucks & it's complicated to get sorted out.

I had all my id stolen when my wallet was stolen when in the psych hospital a few years ago. I immediately cancelled the credit cards, and contacted the credit agencies to put an identity theft, fraud warning on my files, so that if anyone tried to take out new credit in my name, I'd be contacted. The thieves still managed to open a couple of accounts in my name, phone TV and internet, none of the companies bothered to check my credit files because I've been a great customer for years. I only found out about it when the bills got sent to collection. I had a really hard time with one particularly aggressive collection agency - I had to file multiple fraud reports with the police to get that one sorted. For about 6 months I kept getting calls from the credit agencies asking if I'd applied for store credit cards - of course I hadn't, but at least I stopped it before any real damage was done.

Good luck getting it sorted.
