I got denied for unemployment, so for those of you who have been following my health saga and desperate attempts to stay in my hometown -- it looks like I'm off to MN to live with my sister. bad news, mostly, I think.... I have no source of income now except $75 apiece for freelance articles. My rent is $475 a month -- going to take a lot of freelance pieces just to cover that, much less the car payment, etc.

I'm not sure yet what I'll be doing about drs., etc. My T is moving out of state in a month, so that took a lot of the wind out of my sails as far as staying here, anyway.

I've been depressed anyway and really didn't need this on top of it. bad news, mostly, I think.... Anybody see any positives in this, send them my way.

Candy -

I see all of the events that have been transpiring as a clear sign that you should move to Minnesota. I always ask God to make the direction He wants me to go clear. In your case, I see a GIANT GREEN ARROW point to Minnesota.

Maybe the paper in Minnesota will have an opening. Having worked for newspapers twice in my career, I know how that can get in your blood.

Keep us posted.

I'd try to be thankful, however hard it might be, that I had somebody willing to help out. Remenber, it's only temporary. Try to make the best of it. Maybe a fresh start is what you need right now.

disability paperwork has been in progress since late jan./early feb. I'm not likely to get that either, since I'm not expected to die in 12 months, or be unable to work for 12 months.

I'm just exhausted from the constant struggle this has been. I should fight it, but I don't have the will to fight anymore. bad news, mostly, I think....

Sounds like you have hit bottom so there is only one way now, up. Cheer up. I have had a similar experience in the past and one of the lessons I learned from that was that I was not alone. Its amazing how strangers are willing to help out in situations like this. I don't know if you are religious but if you are, you might consider talking to your priest or preacher.

When I was in such a position I sort of decided to see it as the beginning of a new life rather than the ending of my life. Your therapist going, moving to your sisters, all of this could be a chance for you to make a clean break and a new start. Who knows what moving in with your sister will bring. You might meet someone new, or an even better therapist or perhaps someone who knows someone might offer you a job. Its a chance to be a new you, to symbolically farewell bad habits, fears, relationships and start afresh.

Good luck with everything.

Persie.

Candy, if you are physically up to it then you have an opportunity to try new jobs. If your not up to it, and your health keeps going up and down, then you will probably be disabled for a year and qualify for SSD. And, eventhough we don't like to think of such things, there is general assistance and medication assistance when one has no income. I am sorry that all of this is happening. Good luck.

Try to hang in there. There must be a reason for all this. A new environment offers new possibilities.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. You might like living in MN and it's so very nice to have a sister who wants you to come and stay with her.

I wish you all the best.

Hugs,

Jan

Candy, remember you told me that moving to your sister's wasn't the worst thing that could happen?

Think of all the good that would come out of the move instead of all the negative! You said you're tired of fighting. ALLOW yourself to take a break, to rest. Sometimes, blessing come in disguise! bad news, mostly, I think....

We've talked in the past about how much our cities/apts. mean to us, so that has to be a disappointment. But, I do agree with the other posters that there may be some reason all this is happening that we don't have a clue about yet.

I find it interesting that several of us are going through changes at the same time - moving, new jobs, resigning jobs, etc.

*HUGS*

PM if you want to talk!

Candybear,

I live near minneapolis. I don't have any connections in journalism, but I can tell you we still have 2 major newspapers plus a few alternative weekly papers. As others have said, a change in location may bring opportunities. You just might like it here. PM me and we can arrange to meet in person when you get here.

praxis, my sister lives in Rochester, about 90 min from Minneapolis. That would be a heck of a drive each day! There's just the one dinky little newspaper in Rochester, and they aren't hiring. I can't afford to live on my own right now, which is the point of the whole move -- well, that and regaining my health. I have a friend who lives in Mpls too and it's a neat city, I wouldn't mind living there if I were moving of my own volition!

I will let you know when I get there though, and maybe we can meet anyway. bad news, mostly, I think....

Yeah, that would be a heckuva commute! Hopefully it won't take too long to get on your feet health-wise and $-wise, and you will be in a position to make your own decisions again. Bye for now ~p
