I was playing with my cat the other day she's about 9 months old and she ran over my foot and her claw put a gigantic gash in it. Does anyone know how much I should worry about this? I've cleaned it, put antibiotic cream on it and bandaged it. I took a look at it and it's super red and puffy.

"super red and puffy" = infection = go to a doctor.

I've had a million of these cuts in my life (I'm very big on cats and have had hundreds of them in my life!)

Although I wouldn't worry about it, if it stays that way you should definitely see a doctor. It all depends on how long it has been red and puffy. I'd say if it has been that way for more than a day then you should def get it checked out.

Good luck.

I'd definitely go with the see the Dr. crowd. I've owned cats for years and have gotten scratched here and there, but not to that degree. One of those "safe than sorry" things. Infection from Cat scratch?

Spaz -

I think you should go to the doctor's and get some antibiotics -- it sounds like it might be infected.

I got bit by a strange cat , when I was touring in Israel, and fortunately some of my fellow travelers from my church, had some antibiotics to give me, because my hand puffed up.

Keep us posted.

you need to see a dr right away. cats give nasty scratches and bites and you need antibiotics. my ex was bitten by a new cat we got and he was in the hospital for a week on antibiotic drip...I would not put it off either!!
