wow, that's scary, my little sister and I (occasionally), go to MySpace, unfortunately I've met some perverts on there, it's always better just to be safe and leave all personal info secret..................thanks Sky.

Thanks Sky. This is actually a great shout-out for people using MySpace. I have heard that they are actually starting a sting(an online police investigation) trying to catch predators in action. I love the idea. I would like the FBI to start an online 911 button. What I mean is, if you see a problem and you need to call the authorities, there would be a button that you could click on to direct you to the right people.
Just my thoughts

Sky, thanks for the reminder. I had posted about three boys that "created" a girl for a friend and were soon approaced by a pervert. They made the date under the fake girl and when the guy showed up they called the police. He as arrested.

Brain, the sting has been going on and been televised. More power to the FBI!

I know but, what do you think about an actual button that you can click on your browser that is a 911 button? I think that it would deter alot of predators from doing what they do.

I don't think it would work because kids/people would be clicking on it all the time, either on purpose or by accident. It's too bad, too.

Sick perverts anyways...it's not safe at all to meet with anyone you meet online, IMO.

Do you get what I am getting at? Anyone can call 911 on the phone(even young children) but if you call 911 for a bogus call you get into trouble and get a fine. People can learn to respect this online as well. I think that it would help get rid on online predators.
Just my thoughts.

If you think it could work, why don't you suggest it to them, then? Nothing ventured, nothing gained, I always say. myspace.com rapists

That's not always true, Lexi. I've met quite a few people in person that I've known first on the Internet. Only one of them was a Looser... okay, two. LOL None of them were perverts or dangerous. You do have to be very careful, though.

Hey all...I do not think this IS off topic..I am thinking that in house trolls could be on myspace.com and as an accepted member one would not know they are the one who is a rapist or feeding info to a rapist...You know how some serial killers work in pairs...SO this topic IS on topic..I knew a hacker years ago like 11 that would hang in the same chatrooms for ages ...it wasnt until we became real friends that I found out he would hack and crack accounts years into being a ..I am going to say fake cyber friend....so in house trolls could exist there even being benign but fake people wrong sex and so on..

Did you see MSNBC Dateline's "To Catch a Predator," which reporters teamed up with Perverted Justice and hidden cameras to investigate computer sex predators who troll the Web for sex with minors? MySpace.com was one of the websites the predators would lure many of the children. Apparently, Dateline's first two episodes ("To Catch a Predator I and II") there was no immediate police action. However, during the airing of episode III, police began making arrests.

Most shocking was . . .
During their investigation in 2006 in Southern California, there were 50 men caught on camera in only 3 days!!! These perverts came to the location specified in the internet chat with the "child" (Perverted Justice adult employee) and Dateline interviews and films the reactions of the pervert--when they come bearing gifts of alcohol, condoms, etc., but finds out they are on a TV show. Later the police arrest the men.

As I've said before, there is potential danger in EVERY chat, not just myspace. I think if people use their common sense, such as not giving out personal info, they will be a lot better off. I have known people who have been the target of threats and harrassment, including phone calls and even broken windows in their house, and this didn't happen on myspace, it happened in a regular msn chatroom. I don't use myspace, but I know people who do and they just use it to keep in touch with those they know.

I learned the hard way to keep information away from people newly met when the across the street neighbor of my Mothers boyfriend & his daughters friend (who was supposed to be an RN specializing with cancer patients), turned out to be an ID Theaf stealing my mothers ID & all her information when her cognative abilities went down hill because the cancer was spreading. I opened up way too much & had it used against me with the police coming after me.

But like September Morn said, we have met on line friends & ended up having very enjoyable time together getting to know each other better. It is just common sense (that I learned the hard way) to use caution depending on the situation like with anyone you initially meet either on line or even in everyday life.

I would love to be able to have a sting set up to catch that RN who I am sure did it before & will do it again. She needs to be kept off the street & away from preying on anymore elderly cancer patients. We lost all our family jewelry that was in the family.....besides all the stress from what she did to me when I caught her doing it. I still am not over that trauma & will take years & it wasn't even an on line situation. It is just a matter of you being in control of the situation you are in. But it is not necessary to stop all contacts just TAKE CARE & BE CAUTIOUS in whatever situation you are in with someone newly met.

Debbie
