Gimme a break!

Brookfield is a wealthy suburb just west of the Milwaukee County line. The item comes from a blog by two political writers for the daily newspaper.

Vote for me - I'm sane

Politicians say the darnedest things.

Cindy Kilkenny, a Brookfield alderman running for mayor, made this unusual declaration on her campaign blog:

I am not bipolar or under any psychiatric care.

Just in case you were wondering.

HUH??? Sounds like maybe she SHOULD be! Would you vote for this woman?

At the very least, she needs to be educated!

Wonder what her point was. Would you vote for this woman?
Being, Bipolar, I do not find her comment necessary or relevent. Would you vote for this woman? Also, such comments can add to stigmas. grrr!
Okay, I shouldn't say anything, cause I do not know of her or her party, but so far it didn't sit well with me.
I'd have to say, "no". Would you vote for this woman?

1st response, Hell 'NO', but then I thought about it for a moment, and I think I would still say 'NO', but I would wonder what she was getting at and be very curious to watch that particular mayor election. I think I have to agree with what was said already, comments like that are what give people the wrong idea about mental health, in my opinion, so, thats it!!

-Jodi

PS...Just an after thought.... what she said to me, was the same as saying, "Vote for me, Im not (of ____such and such ethnic or racial background)". Fill the blank in youselves, I just thought that what a person is is not what ethnic or race they belong too that makes them who they are, and it sure is hell is not what mental/physical dissabilities they have, its so much more, and so deeper than that, how can a person running for a public political position, make such an ignorant comment, in my opinion.

My guess is it was in reference to the recent Debra Lafave case here in Tampa. It made National news.

She was the teacher who had sex with her fourteen year old student and now says Bipolar disorder was to blame. Would you vote for this woman?

Read more here.

Oh golly, it ruffles me when people use or blame their over sexuality on Bipolar, c'mon, not all of us having Bipolar are sex maniacs or nymphos . . . well I'm not. Would you vote for this woman?
I'm sure though, that some are hypersexual, it just hasn't hit me yet, in fact I feel totally sexless. Would you vote for this woman?
Now her stuff has just added to the dark stigma, public puts on those with disorders. Grrrrrrr!
Oh well, it takes all kinds, I suppose.

Ah, Roe! Don't let ignorant people get to you!

Hey, if Lafavre was hypersexual, she could have used an adult male, not a kid... even a sex toy! SHEEEESH!

I wonder if maybe someone locally had accused her of being or maybe there was rumours that were from the other side of the campain or something?

Otherwise, very bad taste. and i mean, even the way its written is totally unprofessional grammer for a politician.

I saw an interview with Lafavre's ex-husband. They asked him if he ever saw any evidence to back up her mental health claims while they were married. He said that she had "been seeing someone about depression, but she had it undercontrol" and when asked if she was hypersexual, he responded, "I wish."

Hell no! Why would she even say something like that in the first place? Yes, it does give people with bipolar and other mental health issues a stigma, that is very unwarranted!

We're no different from anyone else, but people seem to think that we are!
