My 16 year old sister Brittany was in a car accident tonight. She was driving home with my brother who is 13 from the movies. There was an on coming vehicle that was coming towards her and she swerved to avoid it and ended up in the ditch.

I spoke with her a few minutes ago and she said that physically her and my brother were "OK" but she was sobbing because she was so afraid. I am so thankful that she is ok. I was so scared when I got that call. I cant even tell you how releived I am.

I am still feeling very shakey. Thank goodness she is alright.

Jen,

I'm sorry your sister was in a car accident, but I'm so glad she is OK.

She really showed good instincts by reacting so quickly and steering the car out of the path of the oncoming vehicle.

Keep us posted on her recovery.

Happy Easter.

Hugs,

EJ

Good that she and he are ok. Wow, glad she was able to avoid the head on! So many accidents with teen drivers, I wish they would increase the age, myself. She wasn't driving at "night" though right? Oh that would be even scarier.

Hopefully this will make her an even safer driver in the future. Again, good to hear they're ok. (I've driven into a ditch myself before not fun! Well, yes, they laughed at me...)

Now (((jmo)))) breathe. Sister in a car accident tonight

Ej, Sky and Rhapsody,

Thank you. I know that someone was watching over them. I love my little sis and bro with all my heart and dont even want to think of what "could have" happened. I am just so very, very thankful that they are ok. Going out there tomorrow for easter dinner and my first order of business is to smother them with hugs.

They are good kids. Genuinely, good kids. I cant even begin to express how relieved I am.

Thanks for your responses. Sister in a car accident tonight Sister in a car accident tonight Sister in a car accident tonight Sister in a car accident tonight Sister in a car accident tonight

Yap it sounds like she did VERY well in a difficult situation.

My little sister ended up in a ditch earlier this year in one of my dad's cars and wrote it off due to a bad gravelly road and bad conditions - but she was absolutely fine thank goodness.

It is possibly a god learning experience (in a quite traumatic way) because what your sister went through showed the mistakes that other people can make on the road - even if you are being as careful as anything yourself Sister in a car accident tonight

Jen,

I'm so happy to know that your sister and brother are OK. I remember how scary it is to have a wreck at that age, especially.

You go and give them all those hugs, and more!

I am so glad both of your siblings are alright.
I've had my two cousins do that, and they wound up flipping the vehicle!

Thank you so much you guys. When I got the call last night I was so afraid of what could have happened.

When I saw her today she didnt look well. She said she hadnt slept all night and didnt want to drive anymore. I told her that when she feels comfy again, she will start driving. She refused to even drive with my Mom today up to the store.

Poor thing. They live out in a rural area. Lots of back windy roads. When she ran into the ditch it was so dark and it happened so fast that no one got a license plate number but the lady that also ended up in the ditch stopped to make sure the kids were ok and stayed until my mother, step father and the police showed up. She said my sister did very very well avoiding the other car.

Thanks again for all your well wishes and hugs. Beleive me, I passed them all on to her today Sister in a car accident tonight

I'm so happy to hear they are alright, and she handled things well.
So often teens are getting a bum rap on driving, but I too live in a rural area, and there are plenty of middle aged moms with their damn cell phones and SUV's,yacking away and aren't paying any mind to the road or their surroundings.
Heck when you get up onto the interstates, multiply them and the aggressive "yuppy men", and you'd swear your in some sort of road warrior war. The 2 that people blame the most, I find to be the lease of the problems, teens and truck drivers. Majority speaking, they are not the ones that are causing problems. Majority of problem causers are the middle aged man and women, usually with pricey cars, aggressive personalities, "me mes" and dudes with fancy pick up trucks, here on our rural roads, funny when they get all flustered when the tractors are going to their fields. Sister in a car accident tonight
Okay, I rambled, but I must defend the majority of the teen drivers. I've driven up and down the east coast over the past 12 yrs. plus daily driving 50 to 100 miles, so I've seen a lot over my yrs, I'm 49, got my license 1974.
Well take care, again, I'm glad things weren't worse.

Thanks again guys. I cant seem to say it enough that they were extremely lucky.

I too agree with Darkeyes. I think that alot of teens do get bad raps with the driving. I see tons of "soccor moms" in the mini van, on the phone, kids up walking around and weaving in and out of traffic and then look at you when they make a mistake. Sister in a car accident tonight

Cell phones are a big problem to those not using them responsibly. I used to gab on the cell all the time on the road. I dont now. I only get a call from my son letting me know he has made it in the house safely. I just think they are a huge distraction.

Wow - glad they are OK ! I remember at the ripe ole age of 17 going in a ditch, steering wheel actually came OFF in my hands causing me to lose control ! Brand new vehicle too ! I was bound and determine never to drive again. My Dad, who was a State Police Sgt. at the time, told me I needed to drive again the next day - that not doing so would cause me more trouble. I was glad he insisted, and went with me the very next day. I hope your sister will drive again soon, so that she does not develop a phobia. She did such an amazing job of being in a more serious accident ! She should be very proud of herself for being so alert ! I know about those back roads - no fun !!! Again, glad she and your brother are OK.
