From when I was in elementary school until now, I have had a special effect on people with mental disorders. From simple anger issues to autism, I seem to attract and even calm people with mental disorders. Many of my past boyfriends have had some form of mental disorder, and I work with children who have autism. All of my boyfriends who have a mental disorder have told me that I am very calming to them in a way they can't describe. And all of the children who have autism I work with, cling to me as well as practically ignore the actual teachers to look at or talk to me (I'm only a volunteer).

And I'm not saying it's a bad thing I'm just wondering why this happens.

Thank you

Hey there BipolarGirl1997,

I too seem to attract people with Mental Health Issues. Its strange isn't it. I use to work with Children and Young People who have Special Needs. I then moved to Adults with Autism and I made a few 'friends' there. The men I looked after where quite clingy. I don't know if it is calming knowing me... Might need to ask a few of my 'normal' friends lol!

Do you like helping other's with MH Issues? Might just be your personality that attracts people to you I would say this is a very good thing

I do this too I imagine it's because I understand more than most what they might be going through. Also, I'm pretty flamboyantly open about how I was labelled, and I think me disclosing it willy-nilly means people are more comfortable disclosing their problems. Most people don't think that some schizophrenic girl is going to judge them for their depression/bipolar.

I love to work with the Special Needs class (ESE) I volunteer for I honestly can't wait to go back on Monday. Sometimes I can feel a little awkward with a new class, but I warm up to them and play with them in no time. :P And yea I may not understand what the kids are saying sometimes, but I know what they are feeling. And I know that it must be difficult for these children to get their point across to the adults, because sometimes it can be hard for an adult to undersand what the child is saying. It's similar to having a new born.

Or at least I can take a pretty good guess at what they are feeling.

I think the attraction goes both ways, something in us is attracted to them and we get some reflection of attraction going on. I use to note how well I got along with children and "old people" :-) Now I are one.
